JANUARY 27 2011 -
So we're on to another year for Horrible Idea, and the rest of humanity. December 3rd saw the mighty release of our second album "All in the Climbing" at the Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta. That was a great show, and if you missed it, you need to do a make-up show to get credit. We've now got Clay on bass. This is Clay of Convix of Society (COS), and Loose Skrews fame. He's been cooking up some new riffs, writing songs, and just being a great guy to be around. The creative juices are once again flowing, and we've already got three new songs in the works. Sure, most of us will be 30 by the time we release our next album, but you've got to get with the times; thirty is the new twenty. At least that's what some man said to me outside a gas station tonight before asking me for a dollar.

If you're slow on the uptake, here are a few links you may enjoy:

Purchase and download our new album in digital format, or you can get the physical CD with artwork and fancy shrink-wrapping; all at this amazing site:

If you are reading this, know that you are indeed a valued friend of Horrible Idea. We create music primarily for ourselves, but we record and perform that music because we love sharing our love with all of you. Thanks for being there for us. Some of you for half a decade, other for just a short time. We'd like to thank each and every one of you, and we will in time. Give the album a listen, let us know what you like. We'd love some feedback.

Until next time.

Horrible Idea

Well it's on to another year for Horrible Idea. A new decade, and new songs. We're 15 songs into recording an album that has taken quite a lot longer than expected to create. This is mostly due to laziness on the band's part, and we apologize to that one person way over in North Dakota who is anxiously awaiting our second album.

The songs really are turning out amazing. Rob and Dan at Wizkid Sound have done a ton of great work for us and the sound is great! Check out our Myspace page to hear some of them. Note that they are only the rough mixes right now, but they still sound much better than our old album.

We've also started a Facebook page for all of you book face people out there. We'll always update all of these sites with news and new show listings.

Speaking of shows, we're in the process of booking some around Atlanta at this very moment. Keep checking this site, Myspace, and Facebook for listings. Awesome shows, and awesome new music is coming your way... If you live in Atlanta. The rest of you are stuck with Owl City, which is of course that magical land where all of the Owls go when they're not being CGI'd into Harry Potter films. When was the last time you actually saw an Owl? They're all being sucked into a synth-riddled universe of auto-tuned insanity I tell you!

I think I may have crossed far over into the neighboring city of Digression, so I'll finish up. We're going to be a lot more active in (your city)'s music scene. We of course mean Atlanta, as all others will be busy searching for Owls. And I will note that when I began this post, I had no idea I would be typing "Owl" so much. These things happen.

So, to recap: New album status - coming very soon, Shows - coming very, very, soon, Owl City - mythological place blah blah blah... SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES! And of course, so does Horrible Idea.

Kevin Idea,
Mayor of Owl City

This week we made the tough decision to let Bryan go, making Horrible Idea a three piece. We're going to finish the album as a trio, and then see where fate takes us next. Speaking (writing) of the album; we've got ten songs in the able mixing hands of Rob and Dan. Five more songs are almost ready to be recorded, and then five more will possibly be written for this thing. The first ten sound really incredible so far, and I think we'll be happy with the finished product. For those who actually read my updates; look forward to an album in a few months. Hopefully...

It's been a while... but here a smidgen of what we've been up to lately. It's a rough mix from our upcoming album, and we're I'm very pleased with it so far. It's still going to be about six months until the finished product rolls off the press (or whatever you call it in CD world), but we figured we'd let you have a taste. Let us know what you think: kevin@horribleidea.com

We're recording with Wizkid Sound Studios, and they are great to work with. They somehow get amazing sound (even when recording us) every time. If you want to record, check them out. They're really fun and easy to work with, or maybe just fun and easy... find out for yourself.

SOOOOOOoooooo... here's the tune:

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.
Well, I've updated some of the website, and some of it is going to have to wait. That's because I don't know what the hell I'm doing, and I have to rip out my hair and stumble along through the unenchanted world of HTML. I really need to find someone who knows how to create Flash sites. Anyways, it has once again been a long time since we've written any news updates, and we'll try to do it more often. Happy New Year a couple of months late. We've gotten about ten new songs together, and we're working out the kinks at the moment. They do sound amazing to me, quite a step up from our last album. By the way, you can download that album for free on our "media" page. That's right; free! I'm out of here.

This is a product of boredom and having a 16 channel digital recorder at our disposal... enjoy!

To The Sunset (Extreme German Remix)

It has certainly been a while... since we've paid our internet bill. Those damn cable internet people don't fuck around. Anyways, since last I typed, amazing things have transpired in the ever changing world and universe of Horrible Idea. Remember Chris(AKA Dr. Squeal, AKA Darth Satchelus, AKA Chris)? he was originally in the band for two of the three years we've been together (check the bio for more info). Hehas decided to come back in to the fold, and we're glad to have him. He's schooled back up on our old stuff, and we've gotten a good distance on about ten new tunes. Brian has entered the spot of bassist, and now things are cruising. I'll be sure to get some pictures up soon of us standing around looking as though we're mad at something, or perhaps all dressed in polo shirts and looking forlorn. Better yet, black; eyeliner, hair, fishnets... and angst-no wait!-nialistic abandon! Alright, I'm going to go finish cooking dinner and get ready to rock.

JUNE 2 2007 - And Then There Were Two...
Hmmm... This actually happened last week, but I'm slow to get off my ass and post updates: Beau has left the band. This is actually a good thing in some ways (however sad) because he has a family that needs him. Touring and band commitments aren't exactly fair in certain situations, and Beau realized this.

Sean and I are in the process of trying out some new musicians. We have the benefit of taking our time because no shows are planned until the fall. Rest assured that we will be very careful with who we let bear the name Horrible Idea. By Fall we will be back on our feet in our gigantic, shiny rocking boots. That's all for now children.

MAY 22 2007 - And Then There Were Three...
Alright, so the cat is out of the bag... and dead. BJ is no longer in the band formerly (and currently) known as Horrible Idea. We don't have enough room here to explain the many reasons this had to happen, so we made a seperate page for it. Click the happy squirrel to view the (dum dum dum) "REASONS BJ IS OUT PAGE OF DOOM!!!"

Seriously though, I honestly can't speak on behalf of any of the members of the band, so I'm not going to. I'll only say that I hope him and I can one day mend our differences (in case he's reading), and that I hold no personal grudge at all. That is it for now. I swear we'll do a video update fun thingy soon. Hey, and maybe my other bandmates could contribute some of their thoughts to what is quickly becoming "Kevin Idea's Blog of Happiness". G'day.

MAY 1 2007
Don't fret, my little HorribleIdealians; we're not by any means calling it quits. On the contrary, we're working harder than ever! Even as I type this, I am playing my drums, painting, reading a novel, writing a novel, discussing the finer points of Earthworms in cinema and literature, working with the Dahli Lhama on world peace, and chewing bubble gum. That's right, we work hard... for you.
In all honesty though, we're just holing up in a little studio we created at Beau's place to work on new songs. There should be roughly thirty or forty completed by the end of the summer. Of course we'll throw ten or twenty of them in the dispairing 'B-sides' box that we'll haul out in about ten years. Those poor songs, imprisoned for crimes uncommited. What an outrage!
So if you don't hear from us in a live format in the next few months, just stop by this page. I'll be updating with really, really horrible demos, videos, and all that fun stuff that the much bigger, pompous bands get to do. Also, we'll be getting that (ahem) first album pressed shortly. Hold your breath for that one. Horrible Idea is not liable for anyone who obeys the preceding sentence. Peace Be Unto You.

APRIL 16 2007

The world is a fucking ridiculous place. Every time I actually decide to climb off of my very high and safe horse to take a look around, I am sent scrambling for the saddle. What is wrong with humanity? I'll make a long story short and just say: we're going to do something about it. Not at the moment, of course. I'll have to be content to just read up, soak in, and bitch. I have to struggle just to live, and we're living in a shack at the moment. By some standards, we live in a mansion. Running water, electricity; we've got it made. But no, one day (hopefully one day soon) we will have some money, and proceeds are going to flow like an enormous river to the hands that need it. What do we need? We already have it all, we were lucky enough to land in the west when we were born. We will put a dent (no matter how small; a dent) in the amount of hunger, death, and disease that haunts the rest of the world. We will practice what we preach.
In other "news" we have been working hard on new songs. To say they are unfolding into amazing, incredible works of art is an understatement in my opinion. Then again, if you don't love the band that you are a part of, why be in it? We're attempting to push some barriers for this one. Genre is not a focal point, and scenes are not even acknowledged. Our music will speak for itself. We'll get a really shitty demo of one or two of these beasts up real soon. Do not forget Horrible Idea, for that is a.... you guessed it genius.

FEBRUARY 12 2007

So we're getting ready for our show on the sixteenth of March. I'm pretty psyched about it right now, can't wait... I imagine we'll all just keep drinking through St. Patrick's Day, and on through the weekend until we finally pass out somewhere. Come join us, we'll make it a fun time. Lazer/Wulf is playing, and they are a great metal band. I thoroughly enjoy watching them perform. Well, my eyes are about to melt out of their sockets because I've been updating the site for waaaay too long. Goodnight.

I'm approaching the end of my preliminary website construction. I'm pretty excited (although I tend to be easily excited). Take a minute to browse through the site. Check out some of the bands in our "links" section, download our CD, or just listen to the songs and read the lyrics in the "media" department. Sounds like a lot of fun, no? NO!??! Then get the hell out of here! Shouldn't you be watching the superbowl or something? Hopefully soon I'll have an interactive blog on here for you to all communicate or whatever you want to do. Later.

JANUARY 28 2007

well, it certainly has been a royal pain in the ass making this website again.  I don't really know how half of this stuff works, but here is the somewhat finished product.  I hope you're all happy.  I'm so sick of this damnable news column (that I finally got right after days of punching the computer monitor) that this is all I will write for now.  Let it be known that a screw-around album is in the works at this very moment.  More details when I'm not about to break my computer.
