Curtis Rofo. Born and raised in the depths of the Gulf Coastal Plains in Texas. When I was 3 or 4 years old my Grandpaw put on a Merle Haggard tape in the garage as he was working – I followed my primal instincts and grabbed a dusty golf club to act as my mic and sang my heart out about pain and misery. I wasn’t even old enough to realize what I was saying.
When I heard Kiss at the age of 8 or so, I started to give a damn about music.
When I heard Black Flag at the age of 16, I knew there was a chance for me to be a part of something without having to play an instrument or dress a certain way. Because I don’t know how to be anyone else but myself, and everyone will think what they will.
I’m an anti-poet’s poet. I’m optimistic. I’m a Vidorian. I drink whiskey and sleep little. I work hard. I read any book I get my hands on. I stand up for my individual ideals and I respect my bandmates – and I think Caddyshack is one of the greatest movies of all time.
I’m in it for the energy and release. I’m in it for the music and friends. I’m not a great “singer,” but I’m not a rehash of anybody else. I don’t know it all, but I know what I’m saying -- even if it’s only relevant or funny to us. That’s about it.
