Instrumental Music Program

The instrumental music program is open to all students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Instruction in instrumental music is done at the beginning and advanced levels. Parents are encouraged to rent instruments for their students.

G.A.T.E. Program

Students in grades 4-5-6 must be certified to participate in the Gifted and Talented Education program funded by the state. The district assists in providing quality instruction to these students. The program provides many opportunities for enrichment activities geared toward divergent thinking and problem-solving skills.

Student Council

The students at Lincoln learn the fundamentals of student government through the student council. In September and January, the students elect the following officers for the school year (offices are held on a semester basis):

President: Must be a 6th grade student

Grade Level President: Must be a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student

Vice President: May be a 5th or 6th grade student

Secretary: May be a 5th or 6th grade student

Treasurer: May be a 5th or 6th grade student

Commissioner of Athletics: May be a 5th or 6th grade student

Commissioner of Grounds: May be a 4th, 5th or 6th grade student

Commissioner of Bikes: May be a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student

Fire Marshall May be a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student

Drug Abuse Rep (2 students) Must be a 6th grade student

The student council takes an active role in sponsoring and planning various student activities, enhancing communication between the students and the staff and conducting a fund-raising jog-a-thon for the benefit of the students. In addition to our elected officers, we have two room representatives per classroom in grades 4-6. Classroom representitives are elected by their classroom on a semester basis.

Drama Club

The Drama Club is open to students who are interested in performing in the school play and other functions throughout the year. Students learn acting skills, make-up and stagecraft skills.

Spring Festival of Oral Interpretation

The Spring Festival of Oral Interpretation is sponsored bye the Clovis Unified School District. All students are eligible to try out for individual speaking parts. The speech chorus is open to upper grade students. All participants are determined by try-outs. These try-outs are conducted in front of a panel of judges. Criterion for selection is available to all students and parents.

Clovis Unified Spelling Contest

The district sponsors a spelling contest each year in the spring. All students are eligible to take an examination in order to qualify for the Weldon spelling team. A written and oral spelling test is administered to participants and the winners are determined by spelldowns. Our Weldon team then competes against the other schools in the district.

Science Team

Sixth grade students are eligible to compete at the Fresno County Science Fair. Students keep in contact with the Science Fair Advisor to assure their entry is consistent with Science Fair Regulations. Work on Science Fair Projects begins in the Fall each school year.

Essay and Poster Contests

Numerous essay and poster contests are open to the students at Weldon. These contests are open to any student who wishes to participate. These activities give students the opportunity to display academic as well as creative skills. Your encouragement is helpful.

Cheer Squad

This activity is open to fifth and sixth grade students. Only students in good standing are eligible to try out. Parent permission is necessary to be eligible for the squad. During the spring, clinics are conducted during lunch recess and after school by the present cheerleaders and advisors.
