In September of 2001, music was booming. Such bands as Linkin Park, Slipknot
and Sum 41 were hitting the music charts over your typical pop artists. After
seeing that it was finally possible, Dan MacInally and Tyler Christie decided
to emerge and created a band. Dan and Tyler started off by jamming every weekend
possible, but not to their regular brand of listening, they were officially
a metal group duo, featuring Dan on Guitar and Tyler on drums. The small group
called themselves Tandom. After about 4 months of songwriting with no lyrics
or singer, Tandom eventually fell away from their Metal genre. Then later on
in Feburary of 2002, Tyler came in contact with one of his old friends, Colin
Brittan. Coincidently Colin played drums, and could play them well. Colin's
band just broke up and was up for the challenge to play with Dan and Tyler.
After one jam session Dan and Tyler new that Colin was the best investment yet
and then Rise Above was born. Although they were not always called Rise Above, they
did go by the name Tandom for about 3 months after the three conjoined. After
the third jam session, the boys did not know what their angle was. They combined
the hard punk with the ska and the lighter side of pop punk with conventional
Hard Rock Elements. Rise Above developed their own sound and can consider themselves
Pop Punk with Hard Rock elements. The three are currently setting up for a recording
session in hopes of releasing a 5 song EP ASAP.
