GBH was originally formed in 1980 in Birmingham by, Colin Abrahall (5/12/61), Colin "Jock" Blyth (1/10/61), Ross Lomas (2/10/61), and Wilf Williams (?). Then in 1981, the band got signed with Clay Records. There, they released several EPs. LPs, and 7" records, such as: "Leather, Bristles, Studs and Acne", "No Survivors", "Sick Boy" and several other ones. Their first two albums, "City Baby Attacked By Rats", released in '82, and "City Baby's Revenge", released in '83 were probably the best albums they ever put out, but that's only my opinion. They also released several singles like "Catch 23/ Hellhole", "Give Me Fire/ Mantrap", "Do What You Do", and "Oh No, It's GBH Again". Then a few years later they got signed with Rough Justice, there they released about 6 albums including "Midnight Madness And Beyond", "No Need To Panic", "A Fridge Too Far", "From Here To Reality", "Church Of The Truly Warped", and their new album, "Punk Junkies" (We Bite Records). Some of their new stuff is kind of metalcore but a slight mix of their old stuff. The new one is decent and some say its the best album they released since '83, I don't know about that 'cos I'm kindda in the middle. I like their new stuff but usually old stuff is waaaayyyy better. Anyways, GBH is back with a new look and attitude. The current GBH lineup is:
COLIN: Vocals JOCK: Guitar ROSS: Bass SCOTT: Drums
What does GBH mean" must be one of the most frequently asked questions that I get asked. If you are British then the chances are that you will know the answer, but being that most of our visitors are from other shores then a proper explanation seems necessary.
In the eyes of British law, there are several degrees of assault on another person for which you could charged if arrested for such offences. I am not sure if these still hold but certainly 'ABH' .. Actual Bodily Harm, would be levelled at you for breaking someone's nose etc. On a sliding scale therefore, 'GBH' .. Grievous Bodily Harm would be for a more serious offence and 'Wounding' would be at a higher level still.
Jock has commented that when 'GBH' started, they then discovered that a Heavy Rock band in London was going by the same name. Rather than change their name, our friends from Birmingham added 'Charged' to their title, they never actually heard of the other band again and eventually the 'Charged' was dropped (circa 1984 at the end of the 'Clay' period).
