Green
Day's debut cd on Lookout! Records is a great beginner album for new fans
to the band, on this disc you will find the band at the top of their punk
form. Most of the songs are catchy tunes about wanting chicks, if your
a teenager, you will probably be able to identify with a lot of the songs.
If you like to check out tunes on Napster before you buy, i'd recommend
the following: At The Library, Dissapearing Boy, and Going To Pasalacqua.
Bottom line: fans of bands like Blink 182 and the Offspring will enjoy
this disc.
Green
Day sophmore disk finds the band singing about many of the same issues
as they did on their successful debut, still throwing out catchy punk tunes
about girls and boredom. This was GD's last cd on Lookout! Records, after
this cd was released the band was the subject of a heated bidding war amongst
labels to sign them, Reprise Records eventually one that battle. Some of
the great songs on this disc include; 2000 Light Years Away, Christie Road,
and One Of My Lies. Bottom line: if you bought the first one and liked
it you'll definately like this one to.
Green
Day's major label debut is generally thought of as the bands best album.
The band started where they left off on their previous albums, but with
improved lyrics from Billie Joe and better production values, this album
was destined for the top, eventually going on to sell over 12 million copies
worldwide. Thanks to MTV and Woodstock, Dookie would spawn 3 huge hit singles
(Longview, Basket Case, When I Come Around), and see Green Day appearing
on the cover of magazines like Rolling Stone and Spin. This album brought
punk music to the forefront of popular music (even prompting the Sex Pistols
to reunite for a tour), something the band was often criticized for by
the hardcore punk fans. The songs are a little darker on this cd than they
were on previous albums, but still retain the catchy melodys and snotty
lyrics the band had become known for. Some recommended songs are (excluding
the ones previously mentioned): Burnout, She, and F.O.D. Bottom line: A
must have for any fan of the band.
If
your looking for pop-punk along the lines of Dookie, this is not the album
for you. A much darker album compared to their past material with lyrics
centered around anger and self-loathing. A great disk to put your cd player
on full blast to, with harder punk and snottier lyrics than ever before.
This album would be deamed a failure by many critics because it "only"
sold 8 million copies worldwide, but it remains a favorite for alot of
fans. Recommended songs include: Geek Stink Breath, 86, and Brain Stew.
Bottom line: not a great beginner cd, but if you like you punk a little
harder, Insomniac is a great choice.
A more
mature sounding Green Day emerged on this disc, proving the band had more
to offer than straight ahead punk songs. Even though instruments like violins
and a harmonica, make their way onto nimrod, you'll still find plenty of
evidence that the band still has it's punk sensibilites. The band broke
new ground with it's accoustic hit single, 'Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance)',
and made their hardest punk song yet with 'Platypus (I Hate You)'. Recommened
songs: Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin A Ride, and Uptight. Bottom line:
this cd breaks new ground and still has all the things you liked about
them in the past.
Green Day continue to experiment
with new instruments and different types of songs than expected on their
latest record. The lyrics remain punk while the music has gone from punk-pop
to more of an alternative rock sound. Although there is not one hard song
on the cd, fans will still enjoy instant classics like 'Blood, Sex, and
Booze', 'Church On Sunday', and 'Deadbeat Holiday'. Bottom line: The bands
most mature cd to date, if you liked Dookie and Nimrod, you'll love Warning.
