Thursday Bio

Punktuation-What are you guys called, who do you consist of, and what does each one of you play?
Thursday. Geoff Rickly - vocals, Tim Payne - Bass, Tom Keeley - Guitar, Steve Pedulla - guitar, Tucker Rule - Drums
P-Is there any meaning behind the name of your band?
T-Thursday is sort of the transitional day of the week....from the work week to the weekend...and the way we see it, life is a a series of transitions....
P-How would you describe your sound to someone who is new to your band?
T-I guess I would say melodic hardcore.
P-Have you guys ever played any shows with the band 'Tuesday'?
T-No we haven't.
P-What was the feeling like when you guys got signed to Victory Records?
We were really excited....we grew up listening to those bands and I don't think any of us ever thought that we might someday be on that label...
P-How has that changed your career both as musicians and on a personal level?
T-We've gotten more serious as a band I suppose. We wanted to make sure that we stepped things up a level. On a personal level...it's taking up a lot more of my time....hahaha...but I love it.
P-Have any of you played in any previous bands?
T-Geoff played in another band whose name slips my mind right now...oops....and I used to be in a not-so serious improvisational band called Kru Jones.
P-What do you guys do in your spare time away from playing in the band?
T-All Tucker does is play drums! I try to get some film work...doing music videos or on an independent film....and the other guys grab some quick temporary jobs...
P-What is it about New Brunswick, New Jersey and pumping out amazing bands?
T-I'm probably not the right person to ask that question being that I'm the only one in the band that hasn't lived there... but my guess would be that there is something very communal about the scene down there...and I don't mean that in a hippie way....hahaha....it's just that bands seems to support each other rather that compete with each other.
P-What other bands from your hometown would you suggest someone to check out?
T-The Assistant, Unsound, A Days Refrain, The Postage Era, The Low End Theory, God Forbid, Nora, Midtown
P-What other bands are influencial to each one of you?
T-The Who, The Police, Hot Water Music, Bad Brains, Fugazi
P-Who are some of the most influencial people in history and how have they made a difference?
T-To be honest I'm personally not a very big history buff...and sure I could name off some names....but I don't know....you never know what to believe when it comes to that type of thing...so I'm sort of more concerned with the everyday people...they're the ones that count
P-Please give a history of your band from start until present, and in that time, what have been some of the highlights along the way?
T-During the winter of 1998 Tucker and Tom started the band, they met Geoff and Tim through mutual friends and after working with a few other guitar players, I met them about a year ago through my brother's band Unsound. Obviously signing to Victory was a highlight...but even before that....just the fact that we got to work with Alex from Eyeball Records....who is our best friend! Every show that we've ever played with friends is always great. The shows we've played in Galesberg IL...have been great....Kansas City too.
P-Has anything not so good come out of that time together?
T-Knock on wood....so far so good....
P-What has been the response to your new album, Full Collapse?
T-So far we seem to be getting a positive response.
P-In general, who is it that comes out to your shows? ie. the punk rock crowd, hardcore crowd, indie crowd... there's definitely some interesting dynamics with your sound that might appeal to different people in a different way.
T-Slowly but surely it seems like the people are beginning to get more and more diverse. We've played a lot of shows where we were definitely the odd ball band....but somehow people seem to relate to what we're doing....which is completely flattering.
P-Do you guys do anything out of the ordinary to pump yourselves up for playing, or while playing/touring/practicing?
T-We make fun of each other a lot! I have no idea why, but Tucker likes to give me the finger while we play....and for some reason that gets me pumped. Honestly the fact that we're all good friends and that we have the opportunity to travel around and play music together....is more than enough to keep us pumped for every show.
P-When someone comes to see you, what might they look forward to?
T-Hopefully they could look forward to having a good time. We try to play every show like it's our last...and we like to have a good time.
P-Do you have any final comments to make?
T-If you don't know about it already...go check out www.homestarrunner.com. It's a site that a bunch of my friends do....it's a really cool cartoon series....actually it's sort of run by the guy that did the cover photography for Full Collapse
