Punktuation-What is the name of your band?
The Movielife
P-How did you come up with the name? (I mean, it's almost like you guys enjoy movies or something!!!)
TM-Yes indeed we enjoy movies, mostly Teen Wolf and Half Baked, but the name is kinda more geared towards those times when you feel like you are in a bad movie...I mean it wouldn't be so bad if it was at least a skin flick on cinemax or some shit.
P-Who are the current members of this project?
TM-(Me) Vinnie - vocals, killer bod, Alex - guitar, beard, Brandon - guitar, snuggles, Phil - bass, Travolta impressions, Evan - drums, husband
P-Do you go by any aliases?
TM-Phil is NUKKLES, Evan is BOSS BAKEN, Brandon is BIRK, Alex is GALEX, I am TURBO VIN (watch ya ass, punk!)
P-Please give a brief description of your guys' history:
TM-We spent two years doing this crap by ourselves , we put out two demos, both went platinum, so Fadeaway Records decided to do a CD for us...Initial Records felt it, so they did a seven inch, Rev felt that so now we are rockstars! (run-on sentence)
P-What sort of racket do you guys describe your sound as being?
TM-We play a melodic style of hardcore...some of the dudes in the band are way indie rock, and I'm a hard ass motherf**cker, so we got some different flavor for your ear.
P-If your band was an insect which one would it be?
TM-The dung beetle (cuz Evan and Phil have pretty weak intestines)... they shit alot...I'm gonna get a deadleg for that.
P-Where do you guys reside?
TM-We are from Long Island, New York (strong isle)
P-What is the scene like in your humble town?
TM-The Long Island scene is pretty hot...there are a lot of great bands (Kill Your Idols, Silent Majority, Glassjaw) to name a few. There are tons of kids and shows are, for the most part, very fun and non-violent.
P-How does it differ from other places you've been?
TM-It's very on top of things cuz we are in the thick of New York. East coast hardcore is on top no doubt about it. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of really cool scenes in this country.
P-What releases have y'all put out?
TM-We have two demos, a full length called "It's Go Time" , a split seven inch with Ex-Number Five on One Day Savior records, and a seven inch on Initial Records called "Self Destruct".
P-What is the bands' favorite song and what seems to be the general favorite amongst the kiddies?
TM-My favorite song will be on the Rev CD, it's called "Once in a row". The song "Dead to the world" seems to be the hit from the record.
P-How did it feel getting put onto Revelation Records?
TM-It feels real good...this is a classic label (that, I for one, grew up on). It is a complete honor to be doing records with Rev. (I really only signed so I could get free Judge hoodies).
P-Is it a different sort of feeling than when you guys played on Fadeaway Records? For example, do you feel you've got more recognition now?
TM-This is all pretty new, so the whole Rev thing hasn't really kicked in...I hope people can give respect cuz they dig our shit, not cuz we are on Rev. (I also signed because I need the new Y.O.T. re-press).
P-Do you have a personal favorite experience from a particular show? Please explain...
TM-Yeah. We were playing in front of a packed house, and Phil's pants fell down. Then he pissed himself. He dried his tears on his t-shirt with the sleeves ripped off. Kidding...we played a Halloween show in Montana and everyone in the crowd was in full costume. Hundreds of freaks...good times.
P-Why do you guys choose to play music? Is there something about being involved in the scene for you guys or is it more of an expression kinda thing?
TM-I have been in this scene since I was twelve, and it feels good to actually be active in it. We do this because I dont think there is a better way to live your life, than to tour full-time. It's also rad that I get a chance to express all of my love and all of my hate by singing, and people actually listen. (fools).
P-What sort of feeling do you get seeing the kids getting all hyped up on your music?
TM-It's like when you get in the shower in the morning, and the hot water hits, and you piss all over yourself. Seriously, it means a ton to me that people care. Thank you.
P-If you guys could hang out with one person in the whole world for a day who might that be?
TM-Phil would probably say Michael J. Fox (Teen Wolf)...but I say my girlfriend (only cuz she's sitting right here)...(oww).
P-Who are your guys' influences?
TM-Hmmm...maybe Weezer, Pixies, Gorilla Biscuits, some say Avail...not to say that we sound like any of theses bands...
P-What would you do if you could play one show with them?
TM-I'd pull out my toenails to play with Weezer.
P-What might somebody get out of seeing The Movielife live?
TM-Boners and wet panties.
P-What should they expect?
TM-Energy and expect Phil to be Italian.
P-Any final closing comments or words of wisdom?
TM-Check out our CD @ www.fadeawayrecords.com....our Revelation CD will drop in early fall...thank you very much for the interview.
