P-What is your name, the name of your band and your purpose on Earth?
My name is Ariel, the name of my band is Glasseater, my purpose on Earth is to spread joy.
P-Please explain a little bit about how you got your start in playing, and also a bit of a history about Glasseater:
G-Well, to make a long story short I started playing when I was about 10. I used to listen to a lot of music so, whatever I could learn by ear was enough for me. I would come home from school and lock myself in my room and I wouldn't leave til I learned the whole Minor Threat record. I took lessons but, it wasn't as challenging for me. Scales didn't interest me, learning a whole Descendents album did. Glasseater started out as a side project. originally they were going to call it "Card Sound Road". I thought that was gay sounding so, I suggested "Glasseater". I got it from an episode of The Simpsons. Julio called me up one day asking if I wanted to join his band. At the time I was doing something with another friend. When that fell through, I called Julio and asked if they still needed any members. Luckily they did and that same day I went to their practice. As of that day I was in. Later on that year we did our first show, recorded our first demo, and did our first tour. Who knew, 5 years later we would be where we are right now.
P-What are some of your best memories of being out playing?
G-The times we have hanging out with friends and partying.
P-How did you guys meet and how was it you were drawn to each other to make music?
G-We knew each other through playing in bands and going to the same shows. We were all into the same types of music so we eventually started playing together.
P-How difficult was it from getting to where you are since your beginnings as a band?
G-Very hard...and it still is...we constantly work very hard to progress...you ask anyone that knows us and they'll tell you, we're always busting our ass for this band.
P-What are some of the most challenging parts about playing in Glasseater, or in a band in general?
G-Being broke all the time and having to get crap jobs to pay bills.
P-You guys have now released your fourth album, entitled "Everything Is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down." Obviously, you guys are no rookies at writing and recording music. How was the experience of writing this album to recording it, compared to past albums?
G-It was a bit different since JC lives in South Carolina, he would burn a CD with ideas and mail them to us and we would mess with it...we were always touring so we wrote a lot of the songs on the road...we put a lot of time and work into it and were really happy with the way it came out.
P-On that note, how do you think your music has progressed since the beginnings?
G-It's a lot more melodic and mature...it's still catchy, heavy and poppy but just a lot more melodic.
P-How did it come about that you guys joined the Victory Records roster? Since that happening, has life changed for the band? I imagine it will allow you guys more opportunities and chances to get your music out to people who wouldn't otherwise hear it...
G-We weren't getting along with Fearless and that's where Victory came along...and that's opened a lot of doors for us...a lot of people that never looked our way now do just cause we are on Victory Records. Not much has changed yet though...I mean we've noticed a difrerence but nothing huge yet...the album still has yet to be released.
P-There's a lot of raw energy and emotion in your songs. What would you say is the band dynamic that allows you guys to write such powerful songs?
G-It's just always been a part of what we do. We put all our emotions and heart into out songs and into our live show.
P-Where does it go from here? What are your guys' long term plans?
G-Touring as much as possible and hopefully getting more kids to know about us.
P-Do you have any closing comments, plugs, quotes, or anything else on your mind?
G-Yeah check out www.mp3.com/glasseater for 3 songs off the new record and for tourdates and other good stuff check out www.glasseater.com
