Face-up's
Topic: Customizing your BJD
*NOTE: this is how I would do it, so I am not saying any other person’s way is right or wrong, this is just how I do it. And, this is NOT for lips!*
If you want to face-up you own BJD, there are some steps you have to do before you can even start to paint. First off, sketch a to scale picture the area of your BJD that you want to paint and put all of the desired details (down to the last itty-bitty ones) on the pic, just as you would like it to be on the doll.
Then, do this (to scale) again on hard, cardboard paper with exactly the same details. Cut out the parts that you want painted. You now have a template. Set that aside for now.
Cover the desired area with a substance (such as MSC (Mr. Super Clear)) with the required amount of coats written on the directions.
Pick up your template and tape it exactly where you want it on your doll (use clear, safe tape because I don’t know what would happen otherwise, and you can’t be too careful.) you can sketch it on lightly with a colored pencil of what you want it to look like.
Once you have it sketched you can color it in completely with the colors if you want (either way take the template off when you are done if you feel confident enough to not paint everywhere.) then, you can start painting!
