What is "Touching Evil"?

The History
"Touching Evil" was originally a series created by Paul Abbott in 1997 over in England. It starred Robson Green as D.I. Dave Creegan and Nicola Walker as D.I. Susan Taylor. Since it's original mini series, the British version of "Touching Evil" has had two more series created. The best comparsion I can make for people who have never watched British crime series is that a series is like what we would call one season just not done every year. Every once in awhile, "Touching Evil" comes out with a new series. If you want to see the British version, my best advice is to keep an eye on your local PBS programming schedual or buy the series on DVD. You can find it on both Amazon.com and EBay.com. The British version of "Touching Evil" is coproduction of United Film and Television Productions and WGBH Boston.
Fast forward seven years. On March 12, 2004, USA Network premired aired a two-hour pilot for a re-make of "Touching Evil" starring Jeffery Donovan as Detective Inspector David Creegan and Vera Farmiga as Detective Inspector Susan Branca (the original name of her character was changed from the British version). Through the genius of Bruce Willis, Arnold Rifkin, Allen and Albert Hughes, Robert Palm, and Antony Root, the American "Touching Evil" was a hailed event by critics and viewers alike. The American "Touching Evil" ran for 12 episodes in it's first season but it has been cancelled by USA. For more info on what you can do to help save TE, please visit the main page of this site- Main Page. There are hopes that the show will be picked up by another network. Re-runs of the show are being listed as part of the Fall Line-Up for the Global television network in Canada, starting in August. This version of "Touching Evil" is produced by Cheyenne Enterprises, LLC.

The Story
Seeing as how this site relates mainly to the American version of "Touching Evil" it seems only fitting that the general storyline I talk about is that of the American one. I hope this doesn't cause any problems.
The story begins three years ago when Detective Inspector David Creegan is shot in the head by a masked man. After dying for ten minutes, Creegan comes back but he is forever changed. Surgery to remove the bullet in his head results in him losing part of his brain- the part that governs shame. He spends a year in a mental institution and, is by all accounts, crazy.
Fast forward three years- Creegan comes back to work and is partnered with Detective Inspector Susan Branca in the same elite, rapid-response unit within the FBI he helped to found not long before he was shot- the Organized and Serial Crimes unit (OSC). While they seem an unlikely pair, the two work well together, balancing each other out, and race to solve crimes and stop criminals before the next victim is found.
More info on David Creegan's own life can be found here.

The Fans
Touching Evil has attracted a wide varity of viewers from all walks of life. We are teenagers, we are adults but we are all fans. I am part of several fandoms, including, The X-Files, Millenium, Monk, and Law&Order, and I have to say that one of the most dedicated and united fanbase I have ever found is that for Touching Evil. Though we are not in as great of numbers as other shows, we are fiercely loyal to our show and will do whatever we can to protect it and see that it continues. Our love more than makes up for our numbers and, hopefully, soon our numbers will become as great as our love. Other shows can only dream of having the adoration from their fans that Touching Evil has.

Here is what other fans have to say-

"I was watching tv with my dad one night when I was home over Spring Break, and US was replaying the premiere. I loved it from the first time. I love David. He's crazy, vulnerable, sweet, insane, and funny. All at the same time. Susan's his perfect balance. It just a great show. A funny crime drama, and there are so few of those."~monochromedream

"I was initially interested in TE because the artistic style of the show was eye-catching; combined with great music, it had a dark, hypnotic feel I found very appealing. But of course, Jeffrey Donovan made an immediate impression with his entirely unique and unforgettable performance as Creegan. Then, I was riveted by how two such damaged people (Creegan and Branca) managed to work together and do their jobs without falling apart. It's great stuff.~mnemo_syne

"I recognized Jeffrey Donovan from his work on "The Pretender" (loved him on that show). Plus I love 'cop shows' and I can't get enough of tortured characters.
After I actually saw it, I was hooked. Of course, now I'm in Australia so no USA *pokes at Kazaa to get it working*"

"i saw some commercials, thought jeffery was pretty, and i liked the premise of the show.. you know, him getting shot.. blah blah. plus, i have a soft spot for cop shows.
then while watching the pilot, i noticed that two nine inch nails (a band i particularly adore) songs were used, and it was over. i was hooked.
did i mention the plot was splendid, as well? ;)"
