Mobile beam setup

You need all the same type coil antennas for this setup!

part 1

first of all you need to start with a spacing of 7'2" or 86 inches..note you can try adjusting your spacing also try 48" later!

First tune your  HOT antenna!

Don't put both antennas on and try and do them at the same time

Start by tuning your front antenna for lowest reflection or SWR!

If you don't have a reflection type meter just go for lowest swr with your meter.

part 2

Ok now that your front antenna is set  for lowest reflection or swr depending on your meter.

Take it off and  take a measurement write it down, put antenna back on.

part 3

Ok now take the measurement from your HOT antenna that you just wrote down

and add 6"OR 8" to that number

Take that measurement and make your reflector coil antenna that long

This is good starting point

Check you meter see what your reflection or swr jumped to or dropped in some cases.

Now take the back antenna off and lower the stinger 2"

put it back on and check your meter if it went up than you need to raise the stinger

if it went down then your going in the right direction with the stinger.

Continue tuning this till you have a good match with one hot and one reflector antenna.

Now that you have it all dialed in find a good local station you can trust

Get about 5 miles form him and point your setup at him and get a DB READING

Now turn your setup around watch your meter he will drop in signal.

After your pointing the other direction key up and get another DB READING

you should have dropped 3-4 DB units.

That is forward point able power and that's what a mobile beam is all about

Especially WHEN your sitting on the line

And even better when your holding your trophy LOTS OF THEM!!

have fun and we will talk to you out in skip sometime
