The most powerful weapon in the hands of authoritarians is
the rigid mindset of the fooled and manipulated.
(note: there are
thousands of links that we could give here, yet we're only giving you a crucial
few which we see as having "in-the-heart" value in a broad-ranging/"big
picture", or *macro* way. We're shedding light, especially to links which are
very rare and even unknown to much of the critical thinking milieu as far as we
can see.) (note also: While the following links are specifically "big
picture"-oriented topics only at this time, we may make apartial listing of
sites oriented to relatively micro--"little picture"--issues to help promote
other intheheartists’ sites as they come to our attention)
internal links
(note: files may appear not to be
accessible, but if you take the " around them off, you'll find them there;
either this is a glitch in some device I use, or something else; will try to
find a solution...)
Excerpts from
Propaganda: The Formation of Mens’ Attitudes, by Jacques Ellul. Jacques
goes in-depth where few others have, with his excellent demystification of a
phenomenon which a reviewer on the back cover says is *perhaps the most
dangerous in the modern world*. Ellul gives his book as *a defense of Man*
against that threat. (No, "propaganda" is not *all* persuasion as so many
college students today are being led to believe via the game of
Newspeak. And probably the reason propaganda *has* a
negative connotation --and why "reputable" ideologues love to label
challengers as such--is because propaganda is *SO CLOSE TO THE HEART*
of the meta game and value system of manipulation; and **what better way
to obfuscate the situation than by calling all independent efforts at
promoting awareness "bad" or "disreputable" while mere "Information" from
"reputable" sources is to be considered always good!** )
The insights and ideas of John Trudell, hardened
Santee-Sioux Indian dissident and visionary: index of many internal and
external pages! --Including *We Are Power*, excerpts from
Stickman, audio and text interviews and commentaries; with
articulations of on-going efforts to keep domestic "citizens" colonized,
insights on the psychological genocide of attacked people in general,
including Whites, and a deeply-inspiring, yet autonomous, vision of what
*all* may do about these realities. John's understanding of
taken-for-granted beliefs sheds MUCH light where others have not!
Noam Chomsky's full speech on much more than just the Iraq war "MEDIA CONTROL: The Spectacular
Achievements of Propaganda", published online in its entirety, with
permission from Chomsky (previously published at geocities.com...6904);
includes a VERY important analysis of US policymaker ideology and goes into
a history and background to the games policymakers and their media play,
including behind-the-scenes aggressions against Iraq and many others.
"Connect the dots" on broad terms: "It Starts
In Childhood...."
"[W]e can be sure that the global battlefield of the 21st century
will be over information --the dissemination or withholding of facts, the
interpretation of events, the presentation or distortion of ideas and
ideologies, and the communication of messages and symbols carefully prepared
to provoke a particular reaction, either conscious or unconscious, from a
target audience. ...By using communications as a tool of control, wealthy
nations will be able re-establish their colonial empires (as has already
been done in some places) through the "invisible dominance" of the media,
the manipulation of economies, and intrusions into social policies."--from

Warfare Studies

individual luminaries
Jason McQuinn, speaking at length about post-left
anarchy (a four-part article/book).
Bob Black (ideologues HATE
him and work hard to suppress his powerful iconoclastic writings, and that's
one of the reasons we wanted to list him here!)
Herbert Brun, the now
passed-on visionary and co-founder of the "School for designing a society".
Osho, aka Bagwhan Shree Rajneesh; the maverick iconoclast of
spiritualists who dared take a long list of mystifications by the horns and
try to teach something very much along the lines of what a re-arisen Jesus
figure might teach. And, not surprisingly, as he began gaining quite rapid
influence in Oregon, suddenly all the known weapons (and others not so known
at the time) packed by "our" War-oriented nation came out to discredit,
hound, attack, kick out (of a long list of countries under heavy u.s.
pressure), possibly murder, and now *re-write* history about this very
interesting man. Some pretty valid-looking links: Osho
Talks, the
Open Directory Project's links on Osho, and a curiously vibrant site. (here's
some excerpts I put
together from a few sources including his rare and quite interesting
book _Tantra Sex and Spirituality_--ed)
Thomas Szasz (Szasz is the
despised, yet prolific author and great challenger of coercive psychiatry
and so-called "mental illness" since the 1950s. No one i’ve heard of has
come close to spelling out the Meta games of the Therapeutic State better
than Szasz; Deleuze and Guattari did something, but theirs was, for me, not
nearly as accessible a read as Szasz's writings.
David Ingleby (two articles: "Ideology and
the Human Sciences"; and, if you can dig it up, "How Psychiatry and
Behavioral Psychology Became Political Tools") The latter goes a bit
further (and thus may be why it's so hard to find); yet for total
demystification of scientific method one might try the following authors
like Thomas Kuhn (see below))
Thomas Kuhn: "Old Paradigms Die Hard" (See also: Michael Polanyi and
Andreas Ehrencrona. Found an excerpt about Thomas Kuhn: "Thomas Kuhn
changed the view of scientific progress totally. Where once the history of
science was seen as a steady progression where theory is added to theory
until the truth is found, Kuhn saw a series of revolutionary changes of the
world-view of science, where the view of one period had very little in
common with the previous. Most importantly, he questioned the possibility
for science ever to find a truth."
Paul Feyerabend (book: Against Method)--agains scientific
method that is!
Noam Chomsky (at least three important links: Z mag's Chomsky archive, with
complete online books like Necessary Illusions: Thought Control in
Democratic Societies, and this other very more
important site which goes into depths that zmag's site doesn't go
into! (in my view). See also our internal link of Chomsky’s excellent
"Media Control"
speech *in its entirety--unlike Z mag's version, curiously*)
John
Stockwell (note: Stockwell is a heavy-weight cia/military insider
dissident who is a highly decorated veteran officer and West Point graduate
at the top of his class. His best stuff in our view is his demystification
of elite u.s. policymakers from the viewpoint of someone who both was
standing on equal footing with them, and once completely trusted them. May
John continue to wake up!)
Theodore Roszak (excerpts from his powerful, yet apparently rare book
The Making of the Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society
and its Youthful Opposition; (forthcoming)

"Marching in parades, speaking out against atrocities must be done
but, man, you better look at what you do for a living--what you participate
in that causes the pain you speak out against."--from the curiously
forever marginalized artist group called Zendik Farm (...The way so
many in the "alternative" milieu use systematic hype to attack them, I
figure they're worth adding here. Perhaps their "cult" status is given them
like any group that is charismatic and beginning to gain influence beyond
the pale of ideological interests? Having visited them for a short time when
they were in Texas, I am definitely open to more discussion.)
Indy Media's world-wide project of quite free (by Western "democratic"
standards, anyway) 'open-publishing' news pages: http://www.indymedia.org/ (if
having problems, try: chicago.indymedia.org, boston.indymedia.org,
la.indymedia.org, and the left or bottom portion of those sites )
Surprisingly interesting anarchist news, information, and debating site (a
much more free-flowing discussion than average Euro-centric politics!)
First Nations website, with a
lot of excellent and inspiring information about American Indian trials and
tribulations with the feds; especially good information on what's up lately
with the American Indian Movement (AIM)--including both major factions (AIM,
Inc. and Autonomous AIM).
Portland Network for a New Culture (they’ve dealt with the usual
visionary-breaking challenges with surprising integrity)
The
Alembic (apparently defunct, they still have a few interesting articles
on their website, such as Lawrence E. Christopher's 'Beyond Radicalism')
Rainbow Gathering (since
the mid-1970s an experiment of mutual aid and free living has been finding
success in giving at least thousands of people-- every year--in regional and
national gatherings--a serious vision for life beyond the Given imagination!
The federal government, however, has been waging a steadily growing war
against Constitutionally protected places for free group gatherings, and so
the Rainbow Gathering as we know it may soon be "legally" ended.
Stop Shrinks
site and their excellent reading

Gesundheit! Institute, envisioned
by Patch Adams, is a steadily-becoming **free hospital** in West Virginia
which is developing beautiful ***silliness*** (as a key cure) far beyond
medical industry norms! wOw!
