7.4.23: mobi`trailer/mobi#delta.trike with rear-wheel steering

6.10.22:  delta.trike with rear-wheel steering

. the first modern velocopede, Sawyer, Sawyer`s style of steering rotates the rear axle on a central pivot
had rear steering  because it was easier to pedal front wheels,
and pedal'd wheels are simplest when non-turning
. the trailer`axle is cut in half,
and the cut ends (axle`tips) are capped with either
large rings or 2 drilled holes for ( strut, steering cable )
. when the axle is halved and under the frame (rather than over the springs, etc)
then there is a natural tendency for the trailer weight to drop the cut ends of the axle
so a strut is needed to prevent that
. imagine a steering system that starts like the Sawyer`velocipede
(where the rear axle rotates about a central pivot to turn)
but then accommodates my differing axle system:

. a cable is looped between two chain wheels as on a bike,
and the steering column controls the front chain wheel
. between the 2 chain wheels,
the chain is connected to both axle tips
. as you steer left, the right-side chain pulls the right axle`tip forward
which turns the rightwheel to the right
which then causes the vehicle rear to pivot to the right
causing the front to point leftward
. the right-side cable is also occuring from the right axle`tip
to the rear chain wheel,
then back around to the left axle`tip
where the leftward steering pulls the left axle`tip backward
and causes the left wheel to point rightward
to exactly the same degree as the rightwheel had done
. the strut design must allow the same vertical movement
for backward and forward axle movements;
so, in place of a u-bolt anchoring it to the frame,
it needs a pivot bolt that goes through both the axle and the frame .

. during the axle`tip`s arc during a steering turn,
there will be some vertical movement as the axle`tip also has to arc around the strut`s contraint
. during a left turn of the vehicle, where the turning rear wheel is facing right,
it should be leaning to the left
so, the left.axle`tip is moving down as it moves forward
and up as it moves backward (v  -  ^)
-- r.tire from inside vehicle;
hence,
the top strut is mounted slightly to the front of the axle
. the steering pivot bolts would then need to be angled slightly forward .
