7.4.11: mobi`dahon

intro

dahon folding bike. the dahon is a folding bike with 20'' wheels
that was incorporated into the design of the mobi trike
. the drive includes the gears, derailers, pedals, toe`clips
and any modifications needed after adding mountain bike gears to the front .
. the brakes include both original brakes
. the shell is what protects the driver from the weather,
and includes the fender, and mechanisms that guard against animal attacks .
. the frame was modified by removing the pin from the folding joint,
and then perching both front.forks onto the back wheel alongside the back.forks .

. the steering was converted to a culti (shown below), where the handlebars are fixed to the rear of the trike,
while the driver`seat is perched on the handlebars to turn the front wheel by waist rotation
how dahon was given culti steering

dahon`seat

prof.Tauber`s safety bike. the seat on mobi`dahon is arranged like it was on the original dahon,
but it's reclined a bit more to match the angle found on
prof.Tauber`s safety bike (shown left)
. to accommodate the seat`post`s added stress from carrying weight at that angle,
it is affectively shortened by resting on the steering stem (shown below) .
dahon modifiedseat`post perched on steering`stem

7.2.15: seat`back

. the seat`back folding down
could hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position .
todo:
. how to add a seat`back to the current config' .

7.1.7: dahon`stem:

. connects to u bolt:
u-bolt with seat post needs shim to fit u-bolt
and to strengthen seatpost .

7.3.5: mis"seat`bolting

. when moving the seat to steer this long bolt under the seat snags the cables?
that bolt should be going the opposite direction:
it's holding the seat`springs to the seat`carriage,
and the bolts that went there have been lost
(this is seat that dahon came with, but I had replaced it with a 10-speed seat
until I started getting into semi-recumbent designs)

7.3.6: redo
. i's a fairly long bolt, so it might interfere with the spring action:
needs to be shortened or replaced .
7.3.6: redo nixed
. the driver`s butt hits the gym`handlebar before the springs bottom out into that bolt .

solid polyurethane tires

7.5.16:
. perhaps polyurethanes could damage tires by fitting too loosely,
and not spreading the impacts evenly
. try filling a spare tube with polyurethane insulation foam (eg, handifoam, ... construction vapor leak sealing in a spray can ),
and then under that tube, have a pneumatic tube;
so, then flats are reduced, and the grip is firm .

No-Mor Flats
--3000 miles per year, No-Mor Flats is great for me
they increase the weight of the bicycle by less than two pounds
. When they are first installed, there will be slippery water between the tube and the tire, which may cause the tube to slip around, making riding rather hard
. Once it has dried out (overnight, if you do it in the evening) riding is the same as before
. There is more inertia, you will not coast as fast, but pedaling is no harder.

flat-free tires
These products are semi-solid rubber, with no air, so they can't go flat
. You can get either an air-free tire,
which replaces the whole tube & tire (e.g. Greentyre),
or an air-free tube,
which fits inside your existing tire (e.g., No-Mor Flats, Toobz http://www.toobz.co.uk/ )
. These are an as-yet unproven technology,
and cycling equipment master Sheldon Brown http://www.sheldonbrown.com/
thinks they damage wheels
. (We don't know whether that's true, but we're loathe to disagree with the revered S. Brown)
Below are some reviews of these products.

7.3.19: tire slimed

. tire had the wrong type of slime (tubless vs bike slime)
difficult recycling slime from front tire meant for rimless? just mop and toss;
refill tire with bike slime .
