Bill Frisell's first recordings, mega rare! Found these in the stock of an old
Belgian radio station.
Triode consists of Frisell (guitar), Kermit Driscoll (bass) and Vinnie Johnson (drums).
This is probably Frisell's first recording and was made in an edition of 200-300 and
was only sold at shows in Belgium at the time.
Steve Houben is a Belgian saxophonist, and Mauve Traffic is a sextet which includes
all of Triode. Half the compositions are by Frisell. This is probably his second
recording date, and Houben's first. Also featuring Michel Herr (Solis Lacus) on keyboards.
This is jazz funk with a constant solid funky backbeat on every track provided by Vinnie
Johnson.
Both these records are seriously rare but are bound to be of little interest to anyone
not deeply immersed in the Frisell oeuvre, as they are not exactly spectacular.

Rare original in remarkable condition, released on his own Sunny Alade
label. This pre-dates his Island debut by 4 years. Two side long tracks
with very little synth (the bane of african records IMO, how many Diblo
Dibala records were ruined by cheesy/breezy synth arragements?) Only
offered once on ebay and the moron in question compared it to Hendrix.
This is nothing like Hendrix (except he's black and plays guitar).
A fantastic find. Fabulous Sun Ra-esque cover.
