Format: Artist - Title Format (Label Cat.nbr, Country Year) pressing-details, condition Sleeve/Record, price in Euro (€)
Atomsko Skloniste - Ne Cvikay Generacijo LP (RTV Ljubljana LD 0433, Yugoslavia 1978) w/inner ex/ex €40 Debut, original issue; hard/heavy prog
Bank - Jestem Panem Swiata LP (Muza SX 2388, Poland 1986) ex/ex €9,90 Sole release from this Polish hard/heavy progressive rock band.
Bayon - Suite LP (Amiga 8 55 772, East Germany 1980) ex/ex €25 Progressive rock. Best and most ambitious album.
Bergendy - Fagypont Folott Mienk A Vilag LP (Pepita SLPX 17502, Hungary 1976) ex-/ex €11 Second or third album from Hungary's answer to Floh de Cologne, Mothers of Invention, Bonzo Dog Band, etc, who later pursued a jazzrock direction. Described by one Hungarian dealer as: "PROG/FUNKY/BRASS: groovy progressive brassrock by septet from Hungary"
Bijelo Dugme - Bitanga I Princeza LP (Jugoton LSVG-10, Yugoslavia 1979) foc ex(-)/ex €22 Yugo rock/prog band, fourth album.
City - s/t LP (Pool 6.23513 AP, Germany 1978) ex/ex €20 Here are the first three albums (Western editions) by the band City. A bizarre band with contradicting influences, their first two LPs contain great, unique tracks intermixed with typical weak secondhand eastern bloc rock. The cracks start to show on the third album "Dreamland", as the band reaped the rewards of success (abroad) and lost their muse. All three albums are recommended. These are the West German Pool pressings, far superior to the Amiga versions.
City - II LP (Pool 6.23874 AP, Germany 1979) w/inner ex/ex €15 Second album. See above.
City - Dreamland LP (Pool 6.24391, Germany 1980) ex/ex €10 Third album. See above.
Compact - Cintec Pentru Prieteni LP (Electrecord ST-EDE 03501, Romania 1984) toc ex/ex €9 Romanian electronic/synth
(Czerwone Gitary) as Rote Gitarren - s/t LP (Amiga 855 629, DDR 1978) ex/ex €7,50 Czech band Czerwone Gitary ("Red Guitars") whose records were issued in East Germany under the name Rote Gitarren. These are German language re-recordings. Fantastically bad cover artwork -- a trademark of Amiga releases.
Dwa & Jeden - Wyspa Dzieci ("Island of Children") LP (Muza SX 1212, Poland 1975) woc ex/ex €12 folk/folkrock trio; second album (I think), beautiful cover artwork
Electra - Ein Tag Wie Eine Brucke LP (Amiga 855 809, DDR 1982) ex/ex €22 Third or fourth album, symphonic progressive comparable to Novalis. Considered their best.
Fermata - Generation LP (Opus 9113 1150, Czech 1981) ex/ex €12 ex Collegium Musicum; sixth album, fusion-esque; slight tape residue along bottom seam; "excellent instrumental progressive rock with strong krautish feel, jazzy touch, bright compositions, killer fusion guitars, cosmic synthie sounds, superb drumming etc.!!!"
FFN - Zece Pasi LP (Electrecord STM-EDE 01184, Romania 1975?) ex-/ex foc/toc €90 most dealers claim 1971-72 for this, but "Scented Gardens" says 1975 so... disc has a water-mark on side 1 which causes some slight background noise during playback on the last track but this is minor.
Gemini - s/t LP (Pepita SLPX 17508, Hungary 1976) ex/ex €11 Sole (?) album from this Hungarian rock band, with some Doors influences. Beautiful cover artwork.
Group 180 - Reich Rzewski Melis & Szemo LP (Hungaroton SLPX 12545, Hungary 1983) +insert EX/EX €15
Jerzy Grunwald & En Face - s/t LP (Muza SXL 0957, Poland 1973) sofc stains vg+/ex €9 Rare rural rock/folk album from ex No To Co leader. Housed in one of the flimsiest Muza covers; slight staining on back.
Holograf - 2 LP (Electrecord ST-EDE 03080, Romania 1984?) ex-/ex €9

Illes - Add A Kezed LP (Pepita SLPX 17437, Hungary 1972) ex/ex €20 Illes were an uneven but often excellent Hungarian rock band. This is their 4th, in the same vein as the 3rd (and best) album "Human Rights" (1971). "Awesome LP from top Hungarian psych/prog band Illes. This is from the early 70s and leans more toward a rock and prog direction, but still has psychedelic echoes sprinkled in. Another great example east and west rock influences colliding. Like the early Omega records this has that same great production, making me wonder if they were recorded in the same studio...roomy, layered but sparse, and buzzing with analog saturated tube glow. This lp has some sterling guitar work and really well-written songs."
Illes - Ne Sirjatok Lanyok LP (Pepita SLPX 17455, Hungary 1973) foc ex/ex €12 5th album. Re-recordings of older material. "Very early 70s and on this LP they do heavy psych workouts on their own classics and some of 'm are frightningly great with cool fuzz, moog and some real ravers! COOL!"
(Illes) Zsuzsa Koncz & Illes - Kis Virag LP (Pepita SLPX 17429, Hungary 1971) ex/ex €12 Zsuzsa Koncz backed by Illes (who also wrote all the material). Described by our Hungarian dealer friend as: "Powerful Female vocals by Koncz Szusza with backing by Rock band ILLES ranging from excellent Psych Rock, to trippy Folk Rock - strong acoustic/Electric guitars/ Percussion. Great LP."
Jorgi Kwartet - Vol.1 LP (Muza SX 2725, Poland 1990) sticker residue, ex/ex €20 Despite the title, this is the bands 3rd LP.
Kampec Dolores - s/t LP (Ring RL 2012, Hungary 1988) ew vg++/ex €10
Karat - s/t LP (Amiga 855 573, DDR 1978) ex/ex €12 Rare first LP by the best known east german band working in Novalis/Pink Floyd vein. "For fans of well-made melodic light-prog who don't mind a little straightforward rock mixed in, Karat may be for you. Karat is an East German band that scored notable success outside its homeland, particularly in West Germany. The band began life in 1975 as a spin-off of Panta Rhei, the influential East German combo whose singer, Veronika Fischer, went on to have a succesful solo career in East (and after 1980, West) Germany. After some early personnel changes, a five-player line-up emerged: keyboardist and composer Ullrich "Ed" Swillms, singer Herbert Dreilich, Bernd Römer (guitar), Henning Protzmann (bass), and Michael Schwandt (drums). Karat's eponymous first album, released in 1977, it contained the standout "König der Welt" (King of the World), which pointed the band in a more progressive direction."
Karat - Schwanenkonig LP (Amiga 855 770, DDR 1980) ex/ex €6 Third. Another dreadful cover from the Amiga art department.
Karat - Die Sieben Wunder Der Welt LP (Amiga 856 011, DDR 1983) w/inner ex/ex €6 This, the fifth Amiga LP, updated the Karat sound slightly with electronic drums and Fairlight synthesizers, and contained memorable tracks like the acoustic "Mir zwingt keiner auf die Knie".
Karat - Albatros LP (Pool 6.24087, Germany 1979) ex/ex €15 West German Pool pressing, far superior to Amiga issues. For the most part this is nice symphonic progressive in Novalis or Camel vein -- exactly the sort of thing punk rock was designed to kill.
Karat - Der Blaue Planet LP (Pool 6.25377, Germany 1982) foc+insert ex/ex €15 West German Pool pressing, far superior to Amiga issues.
Katapult - s/t LP (Supraphon 1113 2395, Czech 1978) ex/ex €39 Rare debut. Hard rock, progressive rock, blues mix.
Katapult - 2006 LP (Supraphon 1113 2656, Czech 1980) slrw ex/ex €25 Second, nice copy.
Katapult - Pozor Rock! Live 1988 LP (Supraphon 110166-1311, Czech 1988) ex/ex €9 Last LP by this band, more metallic than previous efforts. Fantastic back cover shot of the band sporting some very very bad eastern european denim & leather fashion.
Kombi - s/t LP (Pronit SX 1857, Poland 1979) ex(-)/ex €15 rare debut; usually described as "heavy prog", in fact this is high flyin' fusion with some heavy moves. Very hard to find.
Jaroslav Krcek - Nevestka Raab (1971) LP (Panton 81 0836, Czechoslovakia 1988) +booklet ex/m- €25 Later issued by Recommended Records.
Slawomir Kulpowicz featuring Niemen - Samarpan LP (Muza SX 2508, Poland 1987) toc ex/ex €9 Two sticker tears (see scan) on this delicate, flimsy Muza cover. Leb I Sol - 2 LP (RTB LP 55-5335, Yugo 1979) foc+inner ex/ex €60 Fantastic progressive fusion. Highly regarded. Described by a specialist dealer as follows: "Second and the best and more energetic LP from this brilliant jazz/ethno fusion prog. unit from Macedonia/former Yugoslavia. Full of polyrhytms and brilliant and inventive east Balkan influenced guitar solos from Vlatko Stefanovski. Brilliant and stunnig original work"
Leb i Sol - s/t (aka Beskonacno/Infinity) LP (RTB 2320 118, Yugo 1981) w/inner; coh/soc vg+/ex €60 Another fantastic LP by this fusion trio, truly outstanding. Fourth album, light, airey, inventive. Amazing guitarist.

No To Co - Nikifor LP (Pronit XL 0493, Poland 1968) ex/ex €25 Late 60s pop-psych / flower-pop album
Olympic - 12 Nej LP (Supraphon 1113 2018, Czechoslovakia 1976) ex-/ex €12 Best Of compilation 1967-1975. A good introduction of this long lived band whose material varies wildly both in style and quality.
Olympic - Kanagom LP (Supraphon 1113 3838, Czech 1985) edgewear ex/ex €8 Later album by long running Czech rock band. This one finds them in the mid-80s churning out mediocre punky hard rock. Great glue-sniffing cover though!
Omega - 200 Years After The Last War LP (Bellaphon BLPS 19175, Germany 1974) foc ex/ex €15 Hungarian heavy prog, rare quadrophonic issue.

Porter Band - Helicopters LP (Pronit/Wifon SLP 4010, Poland 1980) ex/ex €7,50 excellent blues rock, first LP
Predmestje - Hazard LP (RTB 2120321, Yugoslavia 1980) taped spine ex-/ex €50 Yugo fusion/jazzrock. Third (and last?) album. Highly sought after!
Profan - Pro Patria LP (HP Records BP-005, Hungary 1987) ex/ex €22,50 hyped to death in certain circles as the best acid-folk album of the 80s. Doesn't quite live up to that but certainly a great album.
Progres 2 - Mozek LP (Panton 8113 0467, Czech 1984) ex/ex €12 ex Progress Organization, who debuted in 1971 and then disappeared until the late 70s, when they re-emerged as Barnodaj in 1978 and then renamed themselves Progres 2. "Excellent keyboard-dominated concept album by superb Czech band, this is considered one of their best lps with long complex tracks a la England "Garden Shed"/Genesis/etc."
September - Domovina Moya LP (RTV Ljubljana LD 0465, Yugoslavia 1979) foc stoc ex/ex €22,50 Yugo rock band, second LP
Skaldowie - Ty LP (Muza SXL 0634, Poland 1970) toc ex-/ex- €12 One of the better Skaldowie album, with an obvious Moody Blues influence. Occasional ticks, paper-thin cover
Skorpio - Kelj Fel! LP (Pepita SLPX 17512, Hungary 1977) ex/ex €9 3rd LP.
Skorpio - Cyere Velem! LP (Pepita SLPX 17575, Hungary 1978) w/insert €9 4th LP. Both excellent copies, nice laminated covers in fine shape. Plodding progressive hard rock from Hungary's answer to Uriah Heep. Teska Industrija - UFO/Karavan 7" (Jugotron SY-22861, Yugoslavia 1975) foc ew ex-/vg+ €10 Teska Industrija - UFO/Karavan 7" (Jugotron SY-22861, Yugoslavia 1975) foc vg/vg €10
Z Kopce - Big Beat LP (Panton 81 0876, Czechoslovakia 1989) ex/ex €9 I've seen this listed as an Impuls LP, but I think that's wrong; this LP was issued in the Impuls series (I think -- I don't read Czech!) and has nothing to do with the band Impuls.
v/a - Hallo Nr.1 LP (Amiga 855 33, DDR 1972) creases, no insert ex/ex €19 w/Bayon, Joco Dev Sextett, Nautiks, Panta Rhei (x2), Puhdys, Rote Gitarren (x2), Scirocco Combo v/a - Na Szkle Malowane LP (Muza SXL 0666, Poland 1970) w/Niemen ex/ex €12 A Note on East European Pressings There are many fabulous records to be found in Eastern Europe, but condition can be a problem. Because of poor quality vinyl and/or inferior pressing techniques, many vintage Eastern European records play with some background noise, even when new (mint condition). The exceptions are Hungarian, (most) Czech and East German pressings, which generally speaking are high quality. The worst pressings tend to be Russian, and the older it is, the more likely it is to suffer this problem. Quality improved steadily during the seventies, eventually becoming very good. Generally speaking one can expect some light noise on some records pressed in the sixties and early seventies. Since most covers were made of flimsy paper or thin cardboard, they tended to show signs of wear immediately, and so ringwear and creasing is pretty much the norm. Again, the exceptions are Hungarian and Czech records. Finally, most records sold in Poland had the price rubber-stamped on the back cover and occasionally on the labels. Finding such a small rubber stamp on the back cover is the rule rather than the exception. If the price was reduced, a second stamp would be added, or the new price handwritten on the cover. This applies to Polish records only. I've attempted to cover the main condition issues for the records on this page in the grading, but please bear the above comments in mind.
