The influence of MARS on owr health and destiny

Mars - dry, fiery, male by nature, the great planet of energies, the planet of power, force, valor and aggression, and determinant of our ability to force ourselves into action. A strong and auspiciously located Mars gives energy, independence, will-power and confidence, and is necessary for carrying out plans. These qualities make it similar to the Sun. Without the energy of Mars we would be deprived of any passion or incentive, we would have neither the determination nor the ability to carry things to completion. But, on the other hand, the aggression of Mars causes rivalries, discrepancies and conflicts, inducing us to put our will to power over other people’s will. In fact, Mars was always the God of War. Unfortunately, it can make a man hostile and mean, turn him into a cold-blooded warrior or even into a criminal. A poorly located Mars may signify violent death or loss of a loved one (in a woman’s horoscope – it may point to widowhood). It is a general indicator of traumas, accidents and conflicts. Mars causes misunderstanding, discrepancies and law suits. In this respect it symbolizes egotistical will, not taking into account other’s views and needs. If Venus rules our affections, as well as our emotional receptivity, our passions are dependent on Mars, as well as our ability to display our individual emotions and energies into the external world. In other words, if Venus rules the “ascending” emotions, Mars rules the descending emotions, i.e. the ability to express emotions externally. Mars is male energy, Venus is female energy. They are the positive and negative, active and passive sides of our perceptive nature. Venus is the emotional sensuality that may develop all the way to finesse. Mars is an emotional excitability, which may degenerate into violence. Generally, Venus symbolizes the wholesome side of our emotionality, and Mars, the pernicious side.

If the Sun and the Moon represent male and female beginnings in general, Mars and Venus symbolize them in a more narrow sense. They are the planets of sexuality, determining the relationship between the sexes, whereas the Sun and the Moon show the paternal and maternal qualities that arise from the male and female nature in a wider sense.  If the influence of Mars and Venus join, especially in a specific sign, sexual desire may become too strong and dominate a person.

Mars rules all types of machines, tools, and weapons and their usage. It is the planet of research and progress. Being based on technological achievement, modern culture is under the strong influence of Mars. Our thirst for war and monstrous weapons comes from it. Technology and war walk hand in hand, as the two faces of Mars’ energy, which modern society neither understands nor has learned to use appropriately. Mars forces us to intensify our energy, but neither endows mankind with the wisdom, nor the love necessary for its proper usage. Under its influence we are inclined to consider force as an end in itself, whereas in fact it is just a means to achieving our goals.

On a higher level Mars opens up a way to spiritual knowledge and energies, and grants self-discipline and self-control. A strong and spiritually oriented Mars helps in performing rituals, mastering yoga exercises and managing methods of occult and spiritual energies. Martian type people are inclined to choose the most difficult, effective and bold ways in all spheres of their lives.

Mars is the planet of determined action. Our actions depend on what our higher purpose is, and where our higher values lie. The energy of Mars is necessary for creativity; however it has to obey spiritual principles and the influence of spiritual planets. If it takes place, Mars allows spiritual energy to be used for spiritual perfection. Besides, it can endow a person with astuteness and a talent of researcher, both at internal and external levels.

Briefly speaking, the majority of Martian qualities are connected with its fiery nature. Depending on the level, from which the energy comes, it can burn or give warmth, shine or smoke, cause trouble or help to shed light on secrets. But in contrast to the self-luminous Sun, Mars needs fuel. It is very important that the fuel is the wish to gain God’s love, to help, sometimes to protect others, but not a wish  to satisfy feelings by any means or to achieve something at the expense of other people etc.

mars and Health

Mars rules many parts of our body: genital organs, blood, muscles, face, left ear, sense of taste, bone marrow. Illnesses caused by weak and affected Mars include: fever, epilepsy, hemorrhoids, (especially if connected with Rakhu), growths, high blood pressure, furunculosis, throat and lung illnesses, and body deformations. It is an indicator of accidents – violence, fire and war; and in its weak position it causes burns, cuts, and injuries. The classical example of a person with effected Mars is the main character of the movie “Unlucky”. Wherever he went, something fell on him, burnt him etc. Mars is also responsible for men’s sexual potency; and that is why any “problems” with Mars may cause problems in this area. A man may suffer from deficiency in sexual energy whereas a woman in a love affair may be given a trouble from a weak-willed husband or a partner.

On the physical level the typical signs of a weak Mars are: a weakness in the immune system, poor appetite, food digestion problems, low body weight, weak liver muscles and small intestine problems. Besides the characteristic susceptibility to hemorrhages and traumas, there is also a vulnerability to anemia and slow healing of wounds and ulcers.

On the psychological level the main signs of a weak Mars are: lack of energy and motivation, and an inability to steady and meticulous work. It is difficult for such a person to defend his interests or rights. He is timid and inclined to yield to someone else’s power, or vice versa he is too reckless, foolhardy and aspires to conquer others, but since he can not express his anger or discontent, he does not realize when he is being manipulated. He may be too passive and controlled or may become a victim of cruel treatment and physical violence, or he can try to use physical violence himself subconsciously. People with a strong Mars will have a beautiful complexion, and are tall with an athletic body. A strong Mars also gives courage, self-confidence, independence, fortitude, bellicosity, sharpness of mind, meditative activity, love for debates, leadership, good organizational skills, a disposition toward all kinds of risky and heroic acts, and an ability for turning ideas into action.

Esoterically, Mars’s psychological meaning includes the energy’s need for transformation. Generally, energy is aimed at a result. Goal orientation is necessary for any form of life. Mars’s aim is to direct the energy at true transformation, change, and sublimation of our consciousness. From a philosophical standpoint spending your energy on transient goals does not make much sense. But this is exactly what we do when we pursue external goals; strive for satisfaction, for wealth and for high social status. Real transformation depends not on achieving some transient earthly goal, but on our ability to reach a higher level of unconditional love.

Methods to Harmonize the Mars’s Influence

It is significant, that Mars is a little different from other planets in this regard. If other planets’ influence has to be strengthened, there is a way to do it, e.g. the methods to strengthen Mercury have been described in a previous article. Those methods relieve certain illnesses, give mental and emotional peace, and change destiny favorably. It is more ambiguous with Mars. Yes, people with a weakened Mars having the above-mentioned problems need to strengthen Mars, but it is very important not to overdo it, as a strong Mars without a developed spiritual focus may cause even bigger problems. For example, when a young man starts to study the martial arts, finds himself surrounded by other tough men, and he is immediately taught how to punch strongly, how to strengthen his muscles, and that the strongest usually wins a fight. In a few years he will turn into a strong, savage person who gets accustomed to solving everything using brute force. It gives him both a large conscious and subconscious aggression. However, any aggression in the Universe is severely punished – health and destiny take a turn for the worse, and life span shortens considerably. According to statistics, benevolence is one of the major qualities necessarily possessed by all people who live long lives. During the first years of all martial arts studies in eastern monasteries, a certain philosophical approach to life is taught. This approach preaches force only in self-defense, internal peace in all situations and most importantly love with lack of attachment. At this high spiritual level Martian energy is used fully, without any “side effects”. So I would like to highlight it once again, simply strengthening Mars without developing compassion and altruistic propensity may be very dangerous.

Mars’s energy can be strengthened by: physical exercise, different kinds of martial arts, strong physical activity, body strengthening  and physical strength development. In psychological aspects one has to be driven, brave, active and energetic. Discipline is necessary on all levels – physical, emotional, and spiritual. Discipline must be reasonable and flexible, not austere.

Most of the Sun herbs and spices can be used for strengthening Mars – cinnamon, saffron, turmeric, and red and black pepper. But in this case it is preferable to combine them with tonics such as ginseng and astragalus. If Mars is very strong, it is necessary to “cool it down” using bitter herbs such as aloe, gentian and rudbeckia.

Colors that strengthen Mars are red and all other fiery-red colors. Many Martian type people like the color khaki. It has to be considered though, that even those, for whom it is useful to wear “Martian colors” (there are 20% of them), are not recommended to wear them constantly, as it strengthens Mars too much. By the way, according to statistics, “speed demons” prefer cars of red colors.

4 Levels of Mars Development

In summary it is also necessary to remember – Mars is the most baffling planet, a big nuisance.  Mars has received these “titles” because it rules one’s aggression and anger. It was said a long time ago that “5 minutes of anger can spoil 10 years of friendship”.  Similarly a fire can turn a large house built over several years into ash in only a few minutes. Anger and aggression are the main obstacles to a spiritual life. “Lust, anger and greediness are the three main vices leading to Hell.” – Bhagavad-Gita. But simply voluntarily restraining the anger will not lead to any good results either, because in this case aggression “gets sublimated” inside into subconciousness, where you should have peace, love and full internal acceptance instead. That is why it is very useful “to let off some steam” sometimes. For example, once a week you should seclude yourself and beat a pillow or kick a stump as hard as you can while imagining your offenders. Those who have to show brutality and aggression to others in the course with their job (e.g.managers, teachers and  military workers) must learn how to use, but to stay out of their influence. For example, pretend you are a manager and you are rebuking a negligent employee and raising your voice, and all of a sudden the phone rings. If you answer and talk to the person on the phone in the same tone, it means that you are under the power of the lower energies. If in answering the phone you talk politely, it means that you control the situation, yourself and your feelings. But you have to grow to get to this level. In total there are four levels to be considered:

  • Level 1: When a person responds to any type of good by aggression and ingratitude. A person is able to perceive and transmit only rough types of energy; he can not control this energy, being its puppet. At this level a person is like a kid – he generally understands only force and can be controlled only by rude shouting and threats. At this level self-expression happens through direct action and effort. Satisfaction is brought through physical activity as long as it does not require sophisticated movements ;as well as through fights or competitions, involving physical strength.

  • Level 2: When a person responds to aggression by aggression. At this level a person can partially control his emotions and the waves of anger and aggression. He reacts not only to direct action, but also to hidden hostility. The feeling that a reliable means for keeping any situation under control is through direct power, supported by force control, is very typical for this level. In love affairs, the main positive feeling is power over a beloved, or vice versa – a strict obedience to him.

  • Level 3: At this level a person can suppress strong fits of anger or aggression using his will-power. But since they are suppression methods, it leads to neurosis and a feeling of dissatisfaction. At this level also comes the understanding that you change yourself and the world only for a short period of time.

  • Level 4: When a person responds to aggression by love and kindness. At this level a person works on higher spiritual energies. Mars does not emit any aggression. When facing a challenge of a brutal energetic assault, he responds by using his energy (by saying a polite phrase in response), and the enemy loses immediately, being deprived of his energy, starting to feel unusual respect, a gleam of conscience and a wish to apologize.

Thus, everybody should aspire to purify his consciousness, learn to always keep good-nature and love inside, and at the external level to make every effort to change the situation (if required), remembering that “Laziness is the mother of all vices”.
