John R Ward, has produced consistantly interesting photography for over 10 years, creating attention grabbing images for advertising, design and editorial clients in the UK.

Based in London he works in the studio and on location where he requires situations to be kept firmly under his control. Although he says he is keen to incorporate and be influenced by local surroundings, the resulting images reflect his personally constructed view.

Controlling the light is also important to John, he prefers not to use available light but add light specifically where it's needed to reveal form and texture. "This is an important part of creating balance in an image."

Although he is acutely aware that this controlling influence is not always appropriate and says he "sometimes just has to crouch in a corner taking pictures and not get noticed" but adds "I try not to be passive for too long, it's a question of judging the characters of everyone involved to make sure I get what I want from a situation."

It's an approach that seems to work as John is kept busy by a broad range of clients. He is currently working on an exhibition project for which the resulting images will be "more than just prints".... watch this space.
