Rabbit Kekai

Rabbit Kekai, one of the last beachboys around, is probably one of the most noted surfers around. What's even more amazing is he's still doing it all at 83 years old. He was born in Hawaii in 1920 and began surfing at the age of five. It is said that he was given the name "Rabbit" because he was active in so many things. He played football, basketball, ran track, and still had time to surf. At age 10, he was taken under the wing of legendary surfer, Duke Kahanamoku, who taught him the ins and outs of outrigger canoe surfing, probably Rabbit's second love. He also helped to found the Waikiki Surf Club later on in his life along with other noted surfers such as George Downing. By age 15, Rabbit was officially recognized as one of the "beachbooys" and received his captain's license. He also joined the ranks of some of the most legendary and noted surfers such as Turkey Love, Scooter Boy, Blue Makua, Panama Dave, Steamboat, Tough Bill, and many more. Today, Rabbit is a very accomplished surfer who has surfed around the world. He has over 500 trophies from the surfing events and probably has many more to come. He currently spends most of his time back and forth between his two homes, one in California with his wife and the other right in the heart of Waikiki. Although Rabbit may seem like time is catching up with him he still surfs everyday and makes it his lifelong dream to be able to surf until he is 100 years old. For those throughout their lives who have been privileged to have a talk or get to simply meet uncle rabbit will simply touched by how truly genuine and kind-hearted a person he really is.
