Sneh
Samudaya -
meaning "Caring
Community " is a collective response by Action Aid India and eight local
organizations namely Behavioral Science Centre, Ganatar, Prayas-Gujarat,
Marag, Saath, and Prayas-Delhi to ensure rehabilitation within
families and their own communities, of the most vulnerable among the survivors
of the Gujarat earthquake. These include children who are left without adult
protection, single women (including widows), disabled people and old people who
are deprived of the care of their families. This process of community based
rehabilitation (CBR) of the most vulnerable survivors of the tragedy, is an
attempt to ensure the protection and rights of those who are not only most at
risk but who are also most likely to be forgotten in the long painful arduous
process of relief and rehabilitation. Along with strengthening caring
responsibilities in the community, Sneh Samudaya
is also an attempt to influence the state policy with regard to these
groups, particularly in the context of disaster.
