SANTA MARIA EL MIRADOR

Santa Maria El Mirador is a not for profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Northern New Mexico. We are licensed and certified by the New Mexico Department of Health for services funded under the Medicaid program including the Developmental Disabilities Waiver and Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded. Services and supports delivered by SMEM are comprehensive and include; Community Living, Supported Employment, Vocational Services, Day Habilitation, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Nursing, Case Management, and transportation. We have also been nationally accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, (CARF) since 1988.

Our Mission directs us by promoting and maintaining an array of quality supports for individuals with developmental disabilities in community integrated environments centered on personal choice, self value and dignity. These supports are based upon individual strengths, needs and choices designed to foster preference, self-determination, independence and improvement in the quality of their lives.

We share a belief that all people, regardless of their ability, have the same basic human needs. People with developmental disabilities are, first and foremost, people with ability.  Without appropriate support, some individuals with developmental disabilities cannot take advantage of the opportunities in our society and community.

We are delighted to share with you several recent awards given to El Mirador. We were recently awarded a “special recognition” award from the New Mexico Health Care Association, for our efforts in providing community integrated opportunities for community living, supported employment, and community involvement for individuals with developmental disabilities. In addition, we were awarded The Quality New Mexico Pinon Award, recognizing our efforts and commitment for quality improvement initiatives at El Mirador. Finally, El Mirador was recognized by the Forty Sixth New Mexico Legislature, 2003 expressing recognition and appreciation for El Mirador’s direct care staff in the delivery of quality services to the developmentally disabled population.
