Accent Denim Totes and Blue Jeans

Read all instructions BEFORE beginning!

START WITH BLEACHED DESIGNS
*If you plan to "bleach out" any designs or areas of denim,
do this step before any embellishing.
1. Place a piece of foil between layers of purse (or pants)
to avoid bleach seeping to the back side of fabric!
Test this technique on a scrap of denim if possible to get the feel
of the brightness and width of the lines when dry.
NOTE: FOR DENIM PURSE above:
Apply starburst or "fireworks" designs with bleach pen.
2. Use the smaller pointed tip of bleach pen, simply squeeze bleach
gel designs onto denim. Allow to dry only 20 minutes (30 if jeans are thick),
then wipe gel with a wet paper towel. Rinse the entire
garment well, and place in the dryer until dry.
3. FOR DENIM VEST (below), apply sunburst designs to foil lined
pockets and squiggle designs to pockets with bleach pen.
Finish as in step 2 above.

ADDING PRINTED FABRIC PATCHES
(see tote bag above)

1. If using very thin fabric, I like to line it with white cotton
fabric. Simply pin white fabric under printed fabric
(right side up), and cut out desired shapes.
2. To fray print fabric, machine wash and dry all pieces (print
and white) BEFORE gluing to garment! To fray
denim purse, cut slits in top layer of fabric across center
of stitched top hem area, or any area that has two
layers of fabric. (See white frayed lines above.) Machine
wash and dry. Clip any extra long undesired threads.
TIP: I love to buy inexpensive thrift store blouses and retro fabrics
and use these as "cutters".
3. Place a piece of foil between layers of purse (or pants)
to avoid glue or paint seeping to back side of fabric!
4. Spread an even, thin layer of OK to Wash-It glue on white fabric,
avoiding 1/4" area near frayed edges. Let set
for 3-5 minutes them gently press onto back (wrong) side of printed
fabric. Let dry 10 minutes. You may wish to hold in place with
masking tape or pins until set.
5. While wet, clean excess with a damp cloth. Let dry 24 hours.
NOTE: Glue dries clear but is visible with a darker appearance on
some colors and fabrics. (Not intended for very thin fabrics such as
rayon, silk, satin and satin ribbons.)
6. Place a thin line of OK To Wash-It glue 1/4" from edge of back
(wrong) side of white fabric. Let set 3-5 minutes then press
in place onto garment.
7. Allow to dry, then add stitching lines close to fabric edge
squeezing Dimensional paint directly from the tube. Allow to
dry 24 hours as paint lines are thick.

PAINTING WITH A PALETTE KNIFE

1. Prewash fabric. Do not use any fabric softener.
2. Place a piece of foil between layers of purse (pants or top)
to avoid paint seeping to the back side of fabric!
3. Use tape to mask off desired area of garment/purse.
4. Squeeze a large puddle of each color of Dimensional Paint onto foil.
5. Use palette knife to pick up a little of each paint color, then
scrape across the fabric in a curved design (like a wave or
'swish') leaving a hit and miss look.
6. FOR DENIM TOTE BAG above: Apply Orange Pearl and Matte
Fiesta Pink in a starburst pattern around bleached "fireworks" designs.
7. Carefully remove tape and let paint dry.

ADDING APPLIQUÉS & PATCHES TO DENIM
(See Blue Jeans Above)

*Use Aleene's Super Fabric Textile adhesive to glue denim shapes
or denim patches to jeans or denim purses. (See jeans leg
close up above.) It is machine washable and dryable,
and dries clear and flexible.
1. Prewash and dry garment. Use adhesive at room temperature.
2. Apply an even layer of adhesive directly to the back of denim
patch, and press into place.
3. Let set approximately 2-6 hours before embellishing.
Wait 72 hours before washing.
4. Or, for lighter weight appliqués and patches, use OK To Wash-It
adhesive, making sure to allow the glue to sit 3-5 minutes before
pressing onto garment!

PAINTED EMBROIDERY & PEARL BEADS

1. Apply short slanted Matte Fiesta Pink lines to denim pocket squeezing
straight from the Dimensional paint bottle tip.
2. Next, add short Orange Pearl paint lines to form an "x" over
each pink line.
3. Follow by adding Matte Aegean Blue dots in between the x's.
4. And finally, add tiny Pearl Blue dots over the center of
each pink/orange "x".

1. Simply squeeze Pearl White Dimensinal paint onto garment until
desired pearl bead size is achieved. Allow to dry overnight
as paint is thick with this method.

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR CRYSTALS

1. *Prewash fabric. Do not use any fabric softener. *Place foil
inside tee to prevent crystal adhesive from sticking to
the back side of garment!
2. A mini iron (textile tool) works well to secure stones to garments.

Or, If using a household steam iron, remove water. Do not use an
ironing board but rather lay a towel over a hard surface to iron.
3. Always test on inconspicuous area to avoid scorching.
4. Position Iron-On Crystals, flat side down where desired. Use
the Textile Tool to adhered to garment holding tip on crystal
for about 15-20 seconds per stone. If using iron, cover with
dishtowel then use tip of iron to adhere in place. Do not move iron
from side to side.
5. Let fabric cool completely before moving.

Painting and Embellishing Tees

*Tees can be decorated in the same basic way as your denim.
Please read steps 1-5 of "Basic Instructions For
Crystals" above. Tee shirt fabric
does not fray well so avoid clipping.

PINK TEE:
1. Pink 4mm Iron-On Crystals were secured to neckline and
pocket first on this pink tee.
2. Dimensional matte Fiesta Pink paint was then squeezed directly
from the tube in thin starburst lines around some of the
Crystals, and allowed to dry.
NOTE: The Blue Pearl Dimensional starbursts on the jeans above are
created in the same manner to surround 4mm Aurora
Borealis Crystals. A thin, sheer 2-layer flower patch was then
added using Aleene's OK To Wash-It adhesive in the
center so petals still move freely.

AQUA TEE:
1. Three colors of Dimensional paint were added at the same time
with a palette knife, Metallic Blue, Sea Mist Pearl and
Diamond Glitter.
Follow "Painting with a Palette Knife"
steps 1-6 above, making small 'wave' design swishes
around neck area and on pocket.
3. A small crown or butterfly appliqué can be secured to pocket
using OK To Wash-It glue. Remember to allow the glue to set on
the back of patch 3-5 minutes before
securing to tee.
