Back-To-School Organizers AMNW Demo
by Shirley Rufener, CPD Airing 8-11-05

We just love anything that can help get our teens off to school on time!
And we all need a little organization so our day goes smoothly. Those extra
few minutes we save avoiding the 'dig' through our box of jewelry may make
a big difference in our busy schedule. These projects can help. They are the
answer to keeping rings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, watches and earrings easily
accessable and organized! No more looking for that matching earring
at the last minute. And... throw in a built in mirror and clock,
and wah lah, everything you need is in one place!

Basic Instructions For Organizers

1. Thoroughly mix together ½ cube of colored Sculpey III clay with 1 slab of white Sculpey (see photo). Roll clay to 1/8” thick sheet
(largest pasta setting #1) and place on powder dusted tile.
Tip: If clay becomes too soft or even sticky, simply "leach" it. Place
rolled sheets between plain paper (no print) with several heavy books
on top for 15-30 minutes. Some oil will absorb into the
paper resulting in stiffer clay.
2. Allow clay to cool 3 minutes so it is a bit firmer, then stamp
images with brown ink. Tip: Press stamp with a little LESS pressure then if
you were stamping on paper. You want the design to sit on the clay for
this technique, NOT give it texture.
3. Cool clay for 3 minutes then cut around shapes with craft knife tip.

Basic Instructions For Organizers

**Great Impressions stamp used: Shoe Boxes H138
1. Follow steps 1-3 of BASIC Instructions above using “Stonewash” and
“Moss” colors of Sculpey III.
2. Stamp half the number of Shoeboxes needed onto light Stonewash, and
half onto light Moss.
3. Form a 3/8” thick long rope with remaining light Stonewash clay. Roll
to 1/8” thick strip.
4. Cut a 4” x 6 1/2” piece of wire mesh with metal use scissors. Roll over
mesh with brayer to flatten.
5. Cut two 3” and two 7” long 3/4" wide clay strips. Lay on tile in a
rectangle shape and smooth seams.

6. Press mesh onto this clay base and roll over clay with brayer (see photo).
7. Cut lids off of boxes on stamped line.
8. Carefully lift clay shoebox shapes with paring knife, and gently press onto frame
as shown in project photo above. Mix and match lids and patterns
as shown but note the length of box lid designs! Tip: You will need to cut a few
narrow shoebox shapes to fit in and fill frame.
9. Refer to “Finishing Organizer”.

Decorated Mirror

**Great Impressions stamps used: Glamour Time #E422, Life Hopes
Love Dreams (flower portion) #G199, Trio of Flower Vases #J62 (flowers)
1. Follow steps 1-3 of BASIC Instructions above using 1 slab of White
Sculpey, ¼” cube of Sunset and 1/16 cube Lilac. You will stamp 1 Glamour
Time design, 10 Life Hopes flowers and 3 Trio flowers on mauve clay,
and 1 Glamour Time, and 10 large Life Hopes flowers on light Stonewash.
2. Roll a 1/8” thick sheet of mauve clay that’s larger then mirror.
Cut and add a smaller square piece (like a short handle)
at the bottom center. Smooth seam well.

3. Place mirror centered in large area and cut around circle leaving ½”
of clay. (see photo)
4. On the stamped Glamour Time piece, cut out the tiny mirror opening,
seat cushion and vase on dressing table with craft blade.
Secure design to base as shown in project photo above. Cut
around table area of design for a shaped handle.
5. Cut out seat and vase and ‘flower center’ (use mini round cutter)
and secure inside openings of mauve design.
6. Secure large flowers leaving about ½” between, then fill in with small flowers.
7. Refer to “Finishing Organizers” below.

**Great Impressions stamps used: Flower Background #K53, Purse & Pumps #F240,
Purse #C26, Diva Walking Poodle #F241, Scalloped Border #F202

to make mauve clay (recipe: 1 slab of White Sculpey, 1/2” cube of
Sunset and 1/8 cube Lilac).
2. Stamp flower background all over a large 1/8” thick sheet of light Moss.
Cut a simple purse shape and an opening the same size as your clock face,
or only the hole size of the metal 'shaft' of clockworks.
3. Stamp 1 Diva and 1 Purse design with brown ink pad.

Stamp 2 ‘Purse and Pumps’ and 2 1/2 Scalloped border designs
on mauve (see photo).

shapes (form purse & pumps) at the top center edge for a
clutch style clock purse. Cut & save shoes for earrings!
5. Secure four borders around clock opening, and press purse feet against
bottom edge.
6. Cut three 2” long pieces of wire with cutter portion of pliers,
and shape each into a spiral.
7. Insert straight end of wires spaced evenly on bottom edge of purse.
8. Follow steps 1 and 2 of “Finishing Organizers” below.
9. If your clock is smaller than opening, place a ¼” rope of Hazelnut clay
on the back side around opening and re-bake for 10 minutes.
10. Glue the wires in place with a Super Gel, and follow steps 3
and 4 of “Finishing Organizers”.

Finishing Hanging Organizer
1. Press 2-4 eyelets into clay as shown in project photo above, and bake
at 275o for 15 minutes in a pre-heated oven. IMPORTANT mirror tip: For
mirror only, place in cold oven, heat oven to 275o and bake. Then,
turn the oven off and allow mirror to cool slowly in the oven or it
may crack). Remove when cool.
2. Allow to cool on tile, then gently slide paring knife under edges to
release. Carefully push the clay out that’s inside the eyelets (back
to front) with a pencil. Remove eyelets if they are loose and glue in
place with 7800. Allow glue to dry a few hours.
3. Apply 2-3 coats of glaze with a flat brush. Allow to dry between coats.
Clock Faces to Print:

4. Print clock face and run through the Xyron machine with the laminate/permanent
adhesive cartridge. Punch a 1/4" hole in center, remove backing paper and secure
to clockworks.
5. Attach organizer shapes together with small lengths of sturdy chain
using needle nose pliers. Tip: Be careful not to press pliers or chain link into clay!
6. Hang from ceiling with fishing line or string, or hang on a wall.

coil so that it stands freely.
2. Cut a circle of wire mesh that is 1/2" larger than top armature wire circle.
3. Flatten the mesh with brayer on both sides so it is flat. Secure mesh to stand
over top circle shape, bending the edges to the back and around wire.
4. Roll a 1/8" thick sheet of clay and cut a 4-6" circle. Stamp dots design all
over clay. Powder dust a tile nad place clay pattern side down.
5. Cut a circle of wire mesh that is 1/2" smaller all around than clay, and secure

6. Roll another 1/8" thick sheet of a second clay color. Stamp all over with Swirls
design. Cut a 4-6" circle.
7. Sandwich the mesh between clay circles and roll gently with brayer.

craft blade knife for clay, and metalworks scissors for the mesh.(see photo).

onto scrap clay and cut out. Cut opening from frame.
9. Powder dust the inside of a bowl and press thick clay circle dish into center.
10. Bake all pieces (the baking bowl also) for 20 minutes in a pre-heated 275o oven.
Take small shapes from oven, but leave bowl to bake an additional 10 more minutes.

11. Once cooled, carefully separate clay dish from baking bowl. Apply a thin line
of TLS to bowl's edge and secure a stamped "Scalloped Border" design. Bake for
another 10 minutes and cool.
