Before you start read the following carefully:
~Wash and dry hands well before working with clay.
~Do not set soft, unbaked clay on fine furniture!
~Do all your white, then lightest color clay pieces FIRST, then the darker ones.
The dark colors will rub off onto your fingers and mix into your
white and light colors if not. Use wipes after any dark color to
clean hands well!
~Knead or "squish" clay until it's soft and workable.
~Do NOT shake the Soufflé or Glaze pens, there is no need to!
~To use these pens, remove the plastic lid. Then remove the tiny
plastic ball on the end of the pen tip and through this away.

Basic Bobble-Pen Instructions

~Gather these things (roller is in your clay kit!)
Carefully twist and pull the black plastic 'rocket shape' area
out of the Bic pen. Do NOT bend the ink stick or it will
leak all over!

~You will need 2 pens for each project, a Bic Stik round pen,
and an old click style pen to use the spring inside.

Note: Before you start touching clay, wash and dry hands well!
1. Prepare your ceramic tile or back side of cookie sheet by sprinkling
with a little powder. Smooth it out so it sticks a little.
2. To wrap the pen with clay: Roll a 3/4" size ball of clay, into a rope
that is 3" long.
3. Flatten clay to 1/16" thick (very thin) with red roller
tool on your ceramic tile or onto the BACK side of cookie sheet.
Make sure it is as long as the white pen tube.
4. Cut a straight edge on one long side of clay
with the plastic purple knife (in your kit).

5. Wrap the pen with the clay, cut off the extra clay on the other
long edge and smooth the seam where they meet with your finger.
Trim extra clay from the opening of pen tube with purple knife.

6. Roll a pea size ball and press it onto the black cap end of the pen.

7. If making a penguin: Roll a marble size black ball. Roll a pea size white
ball of clay, flatten into a little pancake and press it onto the
head for the face.
8. Mix a little red into a small baby pea size ball of yellow to make orange.
Shape into a triangle (beak) and press onto bottom half
of white face.
9. Poke a hole in the neck area and press the spring into it half way,
twisting the spring while you press. Ask an adult to
help if you need it!
10. Carefully press the other end of the spring into the clay ball on
pen so that only a little spring is showing between
them (about 1/4").

11. Cut two leaf/tear drop shapes for wings/arms and press them
onto the sides of the pen like in the photo, with pointed end down.
12. Have an adult bake the pen in a pre-heated oven (the plastic pen tube
is safe) for 15 minutes at 275o.
13. After the clay is cool completely, you can make it real shiny by
brushing on a coat of Sculpey gloss glaze. Let the glaze dry a few
hours, then dot on two dark gray or blue eyes with a Soufflé ink pen.
You can also write CHILLY "PEN" GUIN on the pen using the
white Soufflé pen. Write SLOWLY to make it show up
the best! You can feel the design AFTER it dries, so let it dry for
15 minutes before touching it!
14. Now, if you want, glue a 1" circle of fur to the
back of the head, and a 3/8" wide strip around face
and neck with Tacky glue.
Let it dry. It should look like an Eskimo hood.
Press the ink part pen all the way into the pen hole!

Other Pen Projects: You can make lots of different animals or Christmas
shapes or anything for the top of bobble pens the same way you
did this penguin. After you glaze it and let it dry
a few hours, it's fun to draw dots or shapes or other words
like "my sister", "best friends" or "#1 Teacher" on the pens using
Soufflé 3-D ink colors! Remember to let your designs dry for
20 minutes before touching it. Add a 1 1/2 piece of a
feather boa to neck with tacky glue for a fancy touch!

Making A Snowman Sitter

1. With clean, dry hands, roll a 1" ball of white clay for the snowman's
body. Now roll one 5/8" white ball, and two 1/2" balls for the head and 2 arms.

2. Mix a tiny red ball with a pea size white ball to make pink for cheeks.
Roll two tiny pink balls for cheeks, then add some white to the
left over pink clay. Roll a small ball for nose.
3. Roll a small marble size black ball of clay, and a pea size black ball.

4. Flatten the smaller black ball into a pancake and press onto head.
Shape the larger black ball into hat shape and press on brim.

5. Use the bottom half of a pen tube opening to press a smile on the
face. Press the nose in the center, and the cheeks on either side.
6. Wash hands. Roll one white and also two green pea size balls of clay.
Roll the white to a 1" worm. Roll a tiny red ball into a worm
and wrap it around white. Roll them smooth.

7. Roll the candy cane up on itself and press onto hat (look above at
project photo). Press the green balls on sides of head for earmuffs.

8. Roll the white balls into long cone shapes, and press onto
body (thin ends in the back) for arms, but leave room
for a hand-warming muffler if you will add one.

9. Shape two 3/8" balls of black clay into cone shapes, and curve
tip up like photo. Roll two green balls for socks, flatten and press
onto ankle area. Then roll two tiny red balls and press on shoes
for buttons.

10. Cut two 1 1/2" long pieces of string (from kit). With kit toothpick,
add a hole down into sock and ankle area of shoes.
Then add a drop of Tacky glue in the hole and press end of
strings into holes with the other end of toothpick.
11. Make holes in the snowman at the bottom of body, add glue and press
strings into body. (Dot two dark gray button holes, and white dots on
earmuffs, hat ribbon and socks with Soufflé 3-D ink pens
AFTER baking, cooling and glazing!)

Basic Flexible Friends Bookmark Instructions

1. Roll 1/2 cube of clay till it is 1/8" thick. (If making cat, mix
1/4 clay cube of red with 1/2 cube yellow to make orange color.)

2. Cut out a wooden spoon shape for body with a tail, using the purple
knife in kit.
3. Roll small balls of colors (see photo above) for the face. details,
and arms of legs on animals. Mix a tiny pinch of red with white
for pink clay, and a pinch of blue with white
for the dogs eyes.
4. After adding the stripes (or spots), roll over the bookmark lightly
to flatten the designs. If making a frame animal, you
don't have to do this flattening step!
5. Bend two 1/2" long pieces of black wire (in kit) like a zig-zag
and press into cat face for whiskers.

6. Fold over the tail of the animal so it hangs in a book (or over
the top or SIDE of a frame).
7. Bake, cool and then glaze animal. Add the eye detail dots with
a blue Soufflé ink pen and let DRY. Then, add a tiny white
pen dot on the blue eyes.

Starlight Snowman Ornament

Note: You will need some thick red wire for this project, I used
fun wire. You will also use some pink chalk or make up blush for cheeks.

1. With clean and dry hands, roll a 7/8" ball of white clay into a
8" long rope. Also roll a 5/8" white ball of clay.
2. Roll five 1/8" red balls for nose, socks and two glove ribbings. Now roll
three 3/8" balls for hat brim and two gloves.
3. Roll three 5/8" red balls for hat and two shoes. Roll one 7/8"
red ball into a 8" rope for body design.
4. Press the long ropes of clay to 1/8" thick and stack the red one
on the white one.
5. Roll the clay strips up into a spiral and cut off the part that pokes
out on each side. Place clay on foil and in the refrigerator
for 10 minutes. Have an adult cut the
circle in half to make 2 circles that have a nice pattern on one side.
6. Press the bad sides together of the clay candy circles to make
the snowman thick again. The good, pretty sides will show.
7. Wash and dry hands! Press the 5/8" white ball onto top of candy
spiral body, and add one tiny red nose.
8. Flatten the red hat brim and stick to the head. Shape the top
of the red hat as in photo and press onto rim.
9. Shape shoes and gloves as shown in photo above, then press on
tiny balls for the socks and glove ribbing.
10. Cut four 2" long pieces of red wire and stick into body for
arms and legs. Press the shoes and gloves on the other wire end through
the socks and ribbing areas, being careful not to
poke all the way thru.
11. With a toothpick (in kit), draw two little eyebrows close
to the hat brim above eye area. Eyes are painted on later with a pen!
12. Cut a 1 1/2" piece of red wire, make a loop and twist the ends, and
press into the top center of the hat.
13. Bake for 20 minutes in pre-heated 275o oven and cool down.
14. Have fun decorating the hat, gloves and shoes with little white
spiral designs using a Soufflé 3-D ink pen. Draw slow.
Make dots for the eyes and mouth as in photo below.
Let ink dry 20 minutes or more.

15. You may finish by brushing on a coat of Sculpey gloss glaze to
make the clay shiny and more durable.

Mini Ornaments

These are quick and easy to make.

1. For the snowman, twist a red and
green rope together for a sweater scarf. Then shape the head as
in the snowman projects above, or make a green cone
shape tree or mini nativity.
2. Shape a wire (from kit) into a spiral and press the straight
bottom end into the clay. Don't wiggle wire around or it will
make the hole bigger and come out later.
3. Bake in pre-heated oven at 275o for 15 minutes and let cool.
4. Make them shiny with Sculpey gloss glaze and let dry completely.
5. Decorate the tree with colorful Soufflé pen 3-D ornaments, dot snowman's
eyes and mouth, and dot tiny eyes on Joseph. Mary and
Baby Jesus.
Now you can hang these on your 'room' tree or give them as gifts!

Enjoy giving these gifts to others and make a few for yourself too!
Merry Christmas!
