Choosing and Matching Colors

The first thing I did for my card was to find a printed color
combination I liked to use as my starting off point. This
trendy new line of scrapbook papers (above) caught my eye.
From there I found the cardstock colors that matched my
inspiration prints. That was easy, as the selection of
Paper Accent colors from my craft and
scrapbook stores was HUGE.

At this point I wanted to match my clay embellishments to the
cardstock. So I chose Premo! Sculpey colors that were similar
(there are 33 to choose from!) and started adding white to lighten
them, or brown to mute them, etc. The color chart above shows the
recipes I came up with for my projects. I will try to keep the
card and scrapbook pages all coordinated
within this one color scheme.

Purse Card

Begin by creating the clay buckle. You can
make the card while it's baking.

1. Roll a small ball of "deep pretty pink" clay to 1/8" thick
with acrylic roller (or pasta machine at thickest setting).
Mist a rubber texture sheet with water and
press clay against it. Peel away.

2. Cut a 3/4" square with a Pattern Cutter. Remove excess clay.
Dip a small rectangle metal tube (hardware store) into baby
powder and cut two side-by-side openings, 1/8" apart for buckle.
3. Bake on ceramic tile or index card at 275o for 20 minutes (or
according to the clay package instructions) and let cool.
4. Cut a piece of 12" sq. Chex Anjou cardstock in half. Fold
paper in half and cut at an angle on both sides, more
narrow at the top.

5. Trace top 2" area onto deep pretty pink cardstock and cut shape.

6. Measure and punch two 1/8" holes, 1/2" from the card edges
right on the fold. Thread an 8" piece of ribbon through holes
for a handle, knotting on the inside of card.
7. Place pink flap on purse, lining up top edge with card fold.
Slide buckle onto a 2" piece of ribbon. With the buckle
facing you, glue the top 1/2" of ribbon in the center back of
the pink flap edge with a glue dot. Secure the top of the
purse to card with a tape roller.

Aqua Swirl Purse

1. To form clay accent, roll a sheet of espresso and a sheet of chex
anjou clay, with clay roller, to 1/8" thick each.

2. Cut a 9/16" square and a 1/4" square from the espresso clay.
Now cut a 1/4" square out of the center of espresso clay. Cut
one chex anjou 1/4" square and secure it inside the espresso
frame. Cut two 3/16" circles from the Chex Anjou clay and secure
one to each of the small espresso squares.
3. Cut a piece of Medium Awesome Aqua cardstock to 5 1/2" x 12".
Fold the paper in half and crease with bone folder.
4. Trace a half circle onto bottom edge, leaving some straight area
on sides and cut out through both layers. Trace a half circle
onto the edge of an espresso piece of cardstock and cut out.
5. Rubber stamp card front and flap with a background stamp using
a VersaMark stamp pad that darkens the paper's color.
6. Secure the espresso purse flap to purse with tape roller.

7. Cut a long 1/2" wide strip for handle. Firmly impress faux
stitching lines using a quilt marker tool, working over a
magazine or tablet as a soft surface. Secure to front of
purse with glue dots.
8. Secure clay accents in place with appropriate sized glue dots.

Vase Card

1. Roll out a 1/8" thick sheet of light awesome aqua (3" square approx.)
and espresso clay (small piece) and secure to baking tile.

2. Cut out 3 aqua flowers with cookie cutter and three 1/4" circles of
espresso. Remove excess clay. Make slits by cutting between
each petal almost to the center of flower.

3. Using the craft knife, lift the petals to shape them upward.
Dot a texture on flower center with a dull pencil
or a ball stylus tool.
4. Bake flowers on tile at 275o for 20 minutes (or according to
the clay brand package instructions) and let cool.
5. Cut a piece of dark racy raspberry cardstock to an 8" square.
Fold in half and crease with bone folder. Center and secure
a 3 3/4" x 7 3/4" deep pretty pink rectangle to card front with
tape runner. Secure a 3 1/4" x 7 1/4" espresso
rectangle to pink sheet.
6. Punch or cut a vase shape. Plan position of vase with flowers
on card, then secure with glue dots. (I used dimensional
glue dots to raise the vase.)

Happy Mother's Day Card

1. Create a larger flower the same way you did the small one in
steps 1-4 of "Vase Card" above, using dark racy raspberry
and medium meri-gold clay.

2. Make and bake two leaves by cutting two circles, moving the
cutter over 1/3, and making a second cut. Impress
veins with back side of craft knife.
3. The Chex Anjou card is cut 6" x 12", folded in half, and then
1/4" strips of cardstock were used as accents. The paper corners are
made by cutting a square corner-to-corner.
4. Secure strips with tape runner, and clay flower and leaves
with glue dots.

Additional Inspiration Card Ideas

All the letters in both cards have been die cut. The flowers in
both cards were cut with hand held craft punches. The sheer
ribbon is threaded thru two clay 5/8" circles that have a 1/8"
circle punched out of them using a mini coffee straw. Slits were
cut in the corners of the second card with an X-Acto blade knife
and the Chex Anjou cardstock was slipped into them. Use
your creative ideas to come up with some of your own designs.
Paper and clay are a great combo!
