OMEGA'S MAGNUM II
Please look at the photos and read the story of our German Shepherd dog, Magnum. My wife and I bought our puppy, Magnum, at 7 weeks old from Julie and Leah Andersen, 160 Elk Trail, Clancy, MT 59634 who own and operate Omega Shepherds. After extensive discussions and assurances from Julie, we took the plunge and paid the $2,500 (plus $50 for the shipping crate) to have our new puppy shipped to us from Montana. When we made the decision to purchase Magnum we did so because we believed that Omega Shepherds (Julie and Leah Andersen) was a quality breeder that would stand behind its pups. They said they would and we believed them. We saw all the happy customers on their website who had previously purchased puppies from Julie and Leah. Well, we're sorry to say, this web site is here to tell you another side to the story. Our puppy, Magnum, has several issues that have been brought to Julie's attention through numerous emails and phone calls. The bottom line is that she will not acknowledge any responsibility for the problems that Magnum has. She will not help us in any way nor discuss the possibility of giving us a new puppy in exchange. Certainly this last measure is a drastic one which we are reluctant to take. However, we do want a German Shepherd of the highest quality and standard. Isn't that why we were willing to pay the very high $2,500 price to begin with? Isn't this what Omega Shepherds represents they are breeding? Of course.
Magnum has a very pronounced east-west (or Frenchy) front foot posture. This condition is described in detail in the book "The German Shepherd Today 3rd Edition" on Pages 408-409. This is causing him to stand incorrectly as can be seen in both his photos and the description in the book. Moreover, he cannot run like a normal puppy at 6 months. He has no "gait" whatsoever and is constantly out of breath because of the pressure his inverted stance (elbows tucked into his chest) is putting on his lungs. In fact, he will not run at all most of the time because it hurts him to do so. In addition, his ears are not developing properly and have yet to come to normal standing position at over 6 months of age. Julie's answer to all of these concerns is:
"Well, I can't be expected to guarantee everything".
Well, she did guarantee his health because in the BUY-SELL Agreement it states:
"I hereby guarantee the puppy to be healthy in all respects"
I am sure that Omega Shepherds has produced a number of very good dogs over the years. But, we are leaning the hard way that they also produce some dogs that are not so good. That in itself is understandable. After all, we are dealing with living animals. Just keep in mind before you lay down the big price for one of her pups, that in the event you are unlucky (as we were) and get one of the not so good pups, Julie and Leah will NOT stand behind the pup they sell you, no matter what. You are on your own. Her assurances and kind manner will do you no good if you find yourself in our position. We got the kiss off. Plain and simple. No help, no advice, no offers of how we could work out the problems together, no nothing. The check is cashed and "see 'ya".
We would not like to see what happened to us happen to someone else. So, if, you would like to speak to us personally about this web site before making a purchase from Omega Shepherds, please fell free to call us at our Florida home. We will be happy to give you the latest on the situation of Magnum's health and our dealings with Omega Shepherds.
