The Color Landform Atlas of the United States contains topographical and political maps to the county level for each of the fifty states. Each state link brings up a menu of links to maps and other online information about the state.

PCL Map Collection
The Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection at the University of Texas at Austin holds more than 230,000 maps, many of which have been scanned and made available at this site. This extensive online collection includes hundeds of high quality, copyright-free maps of nations and cities, as well as many historical maps. What Do Maps Show?
The U.S. Geological Survey has provided this online teaching package for for grades 5-8 organized around geographic themes: location, place, relationships, movement, and regions. A map is a picture of a place. Different maps show different information. No one map can show everything. Students will compare shaded relief maps, road maps, and topographic maps

Map Adventures
This teaching packet from The U.S. Geological Survey is appropriate for grades K-3. Students will learn basic concepts for visualizing objects from different perspectives and how to understand and use maps. The lessons center on a story about a little girl named Nikki who visits an imaginary amusement park. Nikki goes up in an unplanned balloon ride that gives her, and the students, different views of the park.

Map Skills Webquest
Students will enter their home address to locate a map of their neighborhood, identify and use longitude and latitude lines to locate the state where they live and other states, find facts about their state, and compare Political and Physical Maps in this WebQuest designed by Nancy Kepner.
