August 30, 2003. Talk about a stunner. An epitome of real beauty-milky, white skin; killer smile; long, slender legs; and wit coupled with a superb sense of humor instantly won her audiences heart which instantly paved the way for her victory in the recently concluded Ms. ICSCJ.
On the pageant night, she made her first pompous appearance linger in the systems of her audience. Imagine, wearing a skimpy bikini in front of so many people! In any way, that only I should say. Is a perfect justification of her triumph.
But before intriguing questions congest your minds, let me just make this clear that our queen here is not what you think. For her feminine beauty is nothing but temporary. Now, what do I mean by that?... You got it right! She was a man in drag since Ms. ICSCJ was a pageant where straight males dress up as ladies and vie for the beauty title.
Ms. ICSCJ is embodied in the person of an 18-year old lad who finished high school at then, Ateneo de Naga, now a university, and is currently a second year stude majoring in Customs Administration... A very sociable person who will greet you with his killer smile... A buddy especially in times of a nerve-racking exams... A consistent dean's lister... A scholar... A swimmer... An Alpha Omegan... You bet! Who else but our SSC Auditor, Salvador T. Tatel better known as Jabbar.
Here is an excerpt of my interview with the queen behind the boy-next-door.
WAS IT YOUR FIRST TIME TO JOIN SUCH CONTEST?
Yup! It was my first time but I already have had past experiences in "straight pageants. You know like Mr. Intrams."
HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING THE PAGEANT NIGHT?
At first I was really shy and a bit nervous. But then, I just told myself that it was just another adventure and in long run,
I managed to be confident. Bigay todo na ako saka nagruluwasan na si wacky side ko saka si pagkagago ko. (grins)
WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MAKE-UP?
Si Ate Russel. And you know what's amazing? We only used lipstick for my eyeshadow and blush on and still naging presentable
man giraray ako.
WHAT WERE THE ATTIRES THAT YOU USED?
Long, gown, and usual casual dress and a 2-piece bikini for my sports wear.
A BIKINI? FOR SURE YOUR AUDIENCE CHEERED A LOT WHEN YOU ENTERED WITH THOSE SKIMPY WEAR.
Yes, very true. In fact the women close to the stage were really giggling... pati si mga judges, so mas lalo ko lugod binigay
todo.
WAS THERE ANY TALENT RENDITION?
Yup, there was. Nag-magic ako using a rope. Gusto mo mag sample ako? (laughs)
WHAT WAS YOUR 'EDGE' OVER THE OTHER CANDIDATES?
Hmmm. Edge? Ultimately, my wackiness. Ako na siguro si pinakagago duman, saka sabi ko ngani bigay-todo talaga ako.
ASIDE FROM THE MISS ICSCJ TITLE, WHAT OTHER TITLES HAVE YOU WON?
Best in sports wear ta ito nganing bikining sulot ko Darling of the Crowd. O, laban ka? (laughs again)
WHAT WAS IT THAT YOU WERE SAYING A WHILE AGO?
I was saying, I came up with a realization after the pageant... pwede ko nang career-ron ang pagsali sa arog kaining contest.
Joke lang! (laughs)
