EARLY AND EXTENDED DEPLOYMENT ONBOARD
USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) 12 NOV 2001 - 18 JUN 2002
I arrived in San Diego on 12 September 2001, the day after “9/11”, to assume duties as the Supply Officer aboard the USS Lake Champlain (CG 57). The ship had been sortied off of the west coast of the United States in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE to provide air support for the western seaboard, for as you may recall, all air traffic came to a halt in the United States. Since the ship was away from Homeport, I reported to the Type Commander of the ship, COMNAVSURFPAC, where I was informed that I would meet the ship at sea to relieve the incumbent Supply Officer. I was transported via USS CAMDEN (AOE 2) on 16 September 2001 where the ship would rendezvous with the LAKE CHAMPLAIN, symbolized by the letters "LKC". Once we arrived on station, I was flown over to my new home at sea, The CHAMP, as she is affectionately called.
