decade the projected number will exceed 200 million possibly reaching 250
million persons ,most will have type 2 diabetes, and all are at risk of the
development of complications.
Diabetes means that your blood glucose ( also called blood sugar
) is too high, some glucose in the blood is needed for energy to keep you going
but too much can cause serious problems in your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums
and teeth, but the most serious of them all is heart disease.
You can reduce your risk of developing heart disease by controlling your blood
pressure and blood fat levels, if you smoke , talk to your doctor about quitting
What Is Type ?
Type 1 diabetes is often found in people under 30
years of age. All people with type one diabetes need to take insulin because
their bodies do not make enough of it . Insulin helps turn food into energy for
the body to work.
Type 2 diabetes usually affects people over the age of 40 .but the young are
also at risk.
Healthy eating and exercise and losing weight may help you lower your blood
glucose. People who are diabetes type 2 may need to take pills to lower your
blood sugar.
