Information about the Ipswich Snorkel Club.

Chairman: Bob Cawston        Chief Instructor : Carl Studd

The club is branch 3080 of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC).  It uses its well recognised training schemes and qualifications to ensure members gain the maximum enjoyment to snorkel safely.  For more information about Snorkelling with the BSAC, a useful link is  www.bsacsnorkelling.co.uk

The Ipswich Club

We meet at Fore Street pool, Ipswich (near the docks) every Tuesday evening between 18:30 and 19:30. The members can go in to change at 18:20 so that they are ready by 18:30.  We run through the whole year but usually have a more relaxed "games" night during school holidays.

It is expected that each child will have their own equipment of mask, fins and snorkel and that they will bring this with them on their first night although we do have some equipment available.

Please contact one of us if you need advice on equipment.

The initial joining fee is £35.  This is a one-off fee which covers a BSAC Snorkelling manual, logbook and BSAC membership.  The BSAC membership is then an annual cost of £15. There are also pool fees of £30 which are due quarterly.

We usually organise several trips during the year to various locations where the children can practice their snorkelling skills.  Early in the summer we try to visit an old brick-pit at Guildenburgh, near Peterborough although we are looking for other places too. Guildenburgh is a commercially run Diving Centre where snorkellers can see sunken cars, coaches and other objects and experience an open water dive in a controlled environment.

In the past we have also organised a week-end trip to Lulworth Cove in Dorset where there are two secluded bays and is ideal for the slightly more advanced snorkeller to experience true open-water dives.

If you have any questions that are not covered here, please speak to one of us at the pool on a Tuesday evening.
