Internet Relay Chats (IRC) Using IRC: The instructions below detail how to "leech" files through Internet Relay Chat (IRC). IRC can be accessed through a popular IRC client called mirc . You can downloaded mirc at www.mirc.com . Remember to re-read these instructions if, they are not clear the first time through. Step 1: Lauching mIRC The first step is to launch mIRC. Assuming that you have the program already installed the program. If have any questioned not answered by this tutorial or need to download mIRC visit www.mirc.com. Step 2: Connecting to a server You should see 2 windows pop up, one the mirc window, the other an options page. FIrst fill out the Full Name, E-mail Address, Nickname, and Alternative, headings (you don't to give out your real info). Then click Okay. Now in the status window, (you can see that you in the status window because Status is the selected at the top), type /server "the server" i.e. /server irc.mircx.com /server irc.aniverse.com /server irc.criten.net etc. Remember not to use the " ". The "/server" command just connects mIRC to another server and disconnects you from the server were previously connected to. Step 3: Joining a Channel Once you have connected to a server, click on the 4th button from the left "list channels". From there in the "Match Text" box, type in what you would like to look for. If you type movies , any channel with movies as the name will appear. Just double click on the channel you would like to join. Or if you already know the channel type /join #channelname i.e. /join #irchelp Another way to connect to a channel is through the channel folder (3rd button from the left). Just enter the name of the channel in the Enter name of channel to join, and click join. Remember the # in front of the name. To add a channel in the list just fill out the channel name, the password to access the channel(if there is one) and a description. Step 4: Fserves and Leeching -wangchang- (File Servers Online) Triggers:(/ctcp wangchang wang's anime & /ctcp wangchang wang's mp3s) Snagged:(0b in 0 files) Record CPS:(0b/s by n/a) Online:(0/4) Sends:(0/2) Queues:(0/10) Accessed:(0 times) Note:(welcome to wang's fserve) «~{Polaris SE}~» This is an example of a Fileserver or fserve for short. The thing to pay attention to with fserves is sends and queues. If there are 0/2 sends, that means there are 2 free slots with 2 send slots total. So if you act quickly you can get a send.If there are 0/10 queues, that means there are 10 free waiting slots. The queues will move up as sends finish. So if you are queued 10 you must wait for 10 sends to finish until you get a send. First step is to type the trigger, for example you could type either /ctcp wangchang wang's anime or /ctcp wangchang wang's mp3s You can only type one trigger at a time, and type what is between the bracket and the &. So don't type /ctcp wangchang wang's anime & /ctcp wangchang wang's mp3s for it won't work. when typing the trigger you should get this: DCC Chat session - Client: wangchang (24.150.0.165) Time: Thu Jul 17 17:04:02 2003 - Acknowledging chat request... DCC Chat connection established -
If you need any help with the commands for the fserve, just type help. But i'll give a quick run through with the
important commands. First thing is first, type dir and you should get a list of the folders and files on the fserve.
When typing dir and pressing enter you should get something like this. Note dir only gives you the folders and files
contained within that folder
Now you have a list of folders and files. Files have the file size and an extention. Folders just display the name.
To change folder just type cd foldername i.e. cd asagiri no miko
You should see yourself in that folder now. Type dir again to see what is in the folder.
Now to get the file, use the get command.
i.e. get [ishin]_asagiri_no_miko_-_14.avi
Always remember to include the extension and not the file size. Depending on the number of send slots, and queue slots, you will get a message from the fserve telling you that you are either getting a send, what queue number you are or that
there are no queue slots and you must try again later. REMEMBER ALWAYS BE PATIENT WITH FSERVES, they are trying their best to
help serve what they have. When finished with the fserve, exit the fserve right away so others can access it as well, this
can be done by typing the commands exit or bye . Remember to stay in the channel as well or you will not recieve a send and
queue slots maybe lost.
To return to a previous folder, simply type .. (2periods)
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DCC IGNORE OFF!!!(located in mirc options, Dcc, then folders)
USING XDCC
When entering a channel you should always check the rules, often !rules with show you, check the topic for the trigger.
If XDCC LIST is allowed, type it, this will show you the packs available from different people
If you find that wangchang has something in pack 4 type
/msg wangchang xdcc send #4
This will either set you in a queue or send you the file. If queues are full, you will have to wait until a spot opens
