CEMETERY PROJECTS
What the Law Requires:
If
graves are to be disturbed due to development or other reasons, the Georgia Code
requires that a permit be obtained from the city or county where the cemetery is
located. According to Ga. Code 36-72-5, the permit application must
include:
- Proof of title to the land
- Archaeologist's report giving number &
locations of graves
- Survey prepared by registered surveyor
showing location & boundaries of cemetery
- Plan by professional genealogist for
identifying & notifying living descendants
- Proposal for limiting or avoiding effects
of cemetery project.
