Keys to catchin:

 

1)     Patience!!

2)     Bait – “Fresh” Shad, freeze shad in 1 gallon bag with koolaid or pickling salt.

 

Buy frozen shad at Academy as a backup.  Important to have firm shad.

 

To catch shad – Structure!  Structure!  Structure!

Good place on Conroe is at the concrete levee near Bentwater

-         outside is good

-         inside is off the “Hizzook”

 

         Does not endorse dough or stink bait.

         Stress quality NOT quanitity

 

3)     Tackle – ½ ounce egg sinker > red bead > swivel > 12 – 15” leader > 1/0 Mustad hook

 

 

 

 

        

Rod and reel – Medium to Heavy action Rod

                       Abu Garcia Baitcaster with Trilene Big Game 20 lb test line

 

 

4)     Boat for catfishing – Preferrably a 17ft “Baymaster” with a 1-70 Johnson outboard motor.

 

                                                                   

 

                                                    

5)     Choose your fishing partner wisely:

-         Must be boat savvy

-         Knowledge of correctly positioning boat- use of anchors

-         Handle fish correctly

-         No Pissy Pansies

-         Can’t be restless

-         No “Bigheads”
