Marine Walkthrough: M5

M5. Alien Threat Deepens
The removal of the third Cloaker has dissolved the shroud that concealed a large Predator base in a remote unmapped sector. Military analysts have been dispatched to assess the situation and to make their recommendations.

Right now, however, all combat efforts are directed to containing the Alien propagation that extends throughout the globe.

In support of this containment effort, Dr. Kadinsky has made significant strides in understanding the Alien lifecycle itself. He is convinced the lifeform contains abilities that, when properly harnessed, will yield instruments of extreme military importance. To prove his hypothesis and further influence the Aliens' development, more dangerous specimens are required.

This mission requires some background information so that you fully understand what must be done. It's been observed that when a hive is without a Queen, a Praetorian will be able to spontaneously cocoon itself so that it may transform into a Queen. It is this specimen, designated a Royal Cocoon, this is the objective of this mission. Therefore, you must first kill the hive's Queen to stimulate the formation of a Royal Cocoon elsewhere in the hive. Then, you must find the cocoon while it is gestating. A Synthetic, being an artificial person, is the only unit that can handle the cocoon without disturbing the growth. Make sure you have one standing by.

RETRIEVE MILITARY SPECIMEN

Objectives:
* Kill an Alien Queen to stimulate the creation of a Royal Cocoon elsewhere in the hive.
* Find the Royal Cocoon. Use a Synthetic to bring it back to the original insertion point that is marked on the map.

Optional Objectives:
* Wipe out the hostile human resistance.

Starting Forces:
* 800 Credits
* 1 CommTech
* 1 Synthetic
* 2 Medics
* 3 Infantry
* 2 Smartgunners

Target Time: 43 minutes

This is a tricky mission! First, have your CommTech repair the Atmo for credits. Use them to get more troops, and upgrades if you can afford them. Aliens will attack you while you collect these credits, so kill them as they come and you should be fine.

Head out east to leave your camp and then head south. You will encounter a camp of Marines, and they are hostile. Kill all of them to complete the optional objective, plus gain more credits with the Atmo inside their camp. You should have enough to max out your troops by now.

From here, keep going south until you can’t anymore, then go due east. This will lead you right to the entrance of the cave, and the Alien Hive. Ignore the Hive Nodes, as usual. This Hive is not extremely well defended, so reaching the Queen’s chamber should be easy enough.

Once you have reached the area where the Queen is, seperate your Synthetics from the rest of your troops. Have your troops attack the Queen and any other nearby Aliens, but try to avoid the Praetorians! When the Queen is dead, quickly send your Synthetics forward and switch your troops to No Attack. It doesn’t matter if they die. Look for one of the Hive’s Praetorians transforming into a Queen. Search around if you have to. Once you find one, send your Synthetics there to collect it. Once you have the Royal Cocoon, you can go back to killing all the Aliens in this Hive if you want.

Now have what is left of your troops escort the Synthetic back to the start point of this level. The Aliens are mostly gone, but now there are a few Predators hanging about. Order more troops if you don’t think you have enough to take on small groups of Predators. Taking the Synthetic back to the start point and placing the Royal Cocoon on the ground will finish the level.
