Marine Walkthrough: Collateral Damage

-----------------------
Collateral Damage.
-----------------------

-----------------------
Date: January 6, 2231.
Time: 6:55 a.m.
Incident +6 weeks, 1.75 hours.
Mission Time: +1.75 hours.
Location: Road system leading from the Primary Complex to the Forward Observation Pods.
-----------------------

McCain: What the hell is going on?
Blackwell: No response, sir. The gate won't open.
Duke: I don't think - open sesame - is gonna work, sir.
Blackwell: How about we use Duke as a battering ram?
McCain: Just get that door open. We're sitting ducks.
Harrison: I'll go.
McCain: You got more balls than brains, son. Exactly what this assignment calls for.

Weyland-Yutani Debriefing, The Incident. Appendix G - Major McCain's Log.
---
Despite casualties, White Team has secured the Southern Landing. Clearly, there are no survivors here. The Forward Pods remain another question. Self-sufficient, if highly isolated, they could have survived. However, our attempts to contact them have failed. Either the landline is dead, or the Pods are. Either way, we'll have to drive there - three hours by APC. Let's hope the famed Dr. Eisenberg gives us a better greeting than our last.

* Open Containment Tunnel 1.

Blackwell: I rigged up an IR lens for you, but it'll drain your battery quickly. You'll only be able to use it for short stretches. Don't rely on it too much.
Duke: Like this mission ain't stupid enough without equipment problems.
McCain: Deal with it, Duke. Harrison, good luck.
Blackwell: Looking good, Frosty.

In this level, you start with 50 armor plus all the weapons you got in the last level. Head left towards the red pipe and use the small walkway here to enter it. At the end of the pipe, use the panel to open the door.

Comm (Blackwell): We're in business.
Comm (McCain): All right, I got an update. Mother can't override the access codes as long as the tunnel security system remains online. So we're gonna have to do this the hard way.
Comm (McCain): The tunnels are divided into sections by containment areas - short tunnels gated on either end, similar to an airlock. With the security system active, only one gate in a section can be opened at a time. Mother thinks a single Marine on foot could allow an APC to move through the tunnels section by section.
Comm (McCain): Harrison, I'm gonna need you to find the primary control terminal and shut it down. It should be just past tunnel section four.

Go through this hall and use the panel to open the door at the end. In here, go up the ladder, head forward, and open the door using the panel. Head forward and left to reach the control station.

Comm (Blackwell): That's the first control station.

Pull the switch in this room and the door will open, allowing the APC to move forward, and also completing an objective and giving you another.

Comm (McCain): Harrison, you're going to have to seal us in and then open the gate from the other side. Once we're through, we'll provide fire support.

* Open Containment Tunnel 2.

Head out of this room and into the open door opposite of you.

Comm (Blackwell): All right, you should be right near the next control station.

In this hall there is a laptop on the floor.

Transportation Handling Procedure 1011-C.

Live specimens are not allowed within the tunnel network without secure, electrified containment systems.

Larval specimens must be transported with a class-4 stasis field. Convict Laborers must be accompanied by passive electronic restraints.

Use the panel to open the door and enter this room. The door closes behind you but you will see it dent then break as an Alien breaks its way inside. Shoot the Alien, then use your hacking device on the panel near the switch.

Comm (Blackwell): Good job, Harrison.
Comm (Duke): Harrison, get that door open!

Pull the switch. The APC will move forward and you'll complete an objective and get a new one.

* Open Containment Tunnel 3.

Use the panel to open the door here and in the next room pull the switch to allow the APC to move and get another new objective. Be careful as Aliens will come at you from the right.

* Open Containment Tunnel 4.

Some more Aliens will come out and attack you so take care of them. Use the panel to open the door here and continue.

Comm (Blackwell): We're in Section 2. Watch your back. It's gonna get hot.
Comm (Duke): Hey, Major, we got a contingency plan?
Comm (McCain): You wanna take over for him, Duke?
Comm (Duke): I didn't say nothing.

In this room, Aliens will attack you, but the nearby APC will fire its turrets at them and help you kill them. Head down the stairs and to the control station. There's a notice outside the door.

From June 16-21st.

The Tunnel Access System will be closed for maintenance.

Use the nearby panel to open the door.

Comm (Blackwell): All right, Harrison, open containment area two. Once we're through, you're on your own until you activate the gate on the other side.

The grate here will open, letting a few runner Aliens out. Shoot them before they pounce at you. In this room there is health, a Smartgun, and Smartgun ammo. The Smartgun is a great weapon against Aliens as it tracks them for you, but for now I would save the ammo and stick to the Pulse Rifle or Shotgun. Pull the switch to complete an objective and allow the APC to move forward.

* Open Containment Tunnel 5.

Watch out for additional Aliens and leave the control station, go back up the stairs, and to the right. Use the panel to open the door. Inside this room there is a laptop on the floor and a Welding Torch in the box.

To: Internal Security Protocol Chief.
From: Dr. Eisenberg.

Although I understand the need to discourage espionage, I think the latest measures go beyond prudent safeguards. By tying the security layer into the node protocol, you do prevent any unauthorized transmissions in the system. However, the data layer is by definition an open layer and vulnerable to attack.

The collapse of this layer could result in a cascade failure of the entire node tree - we're talking a cold reboot, fifteen minutes down time. Given the hostility of this world, I would hate to be without protection for one minute, let alone fifteen.

That Welding Torch is helpful in many later levels. Backtrack out of this room and to the panel on the floor near the stairs. Use your Welding Torch to burn off the two locks and drop down. Shoot the Alien in here and continue through the tunnel, and up the ladder at the end. There is health as well as Smartgun and Pulse Rifle ammo here. Go forward, use the panel to open the door, and go across the walkway, being careful not to fall. In the next room Aliens will break a grate in the floor and attack you. Shoot them, head left in this room for some armor, then drop into the vent the Aliens came out of. Go through the vent, climb up the ladder at the end, and approach the control station door. The panel is broken.

Comm (Duke): You're gonna have to find another way in.

Head backwards and go up the second ladder here into another vent. Go through it and drop down into the control station. In here there is health, armor, and Smartgun ammo. Pull the switch here and the APC will move forward, giving you another new objective.

* Shut down the security system.

Comm (Blackwell): Cater, Mulder, Quaid - you're up. Head for section 4.

Use the panel here to open the door and head left. Watch for any Aliens and go through the open door near the APC. Go through the hall to find health on the way, go down the stairs, and watch the APC roll by.

Comm (Blackwell): Maher, Stone, rendezvous with Harrison.

Enter the open door across from you.

Comm (Blackwell): Damn it, this station is trashed. Luis, try to get it online.
Comm (Luis): It's no use. We've got to get to the security control station.
Comm (Blackwell): Looks like there's a service tunnel that should take you to the main terminal.

The switch here doesn't work, so go down the ladder in this room after grabbing the armor and Smartgun bullets here. Head forward and use the panel to open the door.

Comm (Blackwell): Head right.

Listen to the man and go right down this tunnel. Use the panel to open the door at the end and head forward through the hall.

Comm (Blackwell): That's it. You're almost there.
Comm (Blackwell): Okay, now straight up.

Go up the ladder at the end of the hall. In the next room head towards the control room. The door won't open, so use a grenade from your Pulse Rifle or Grenade Launcher to blow up the door. Enter the control station.

Comm (Blackwell): All right, Marine. Now shut down that security console.

Head to the right and use your hacking device on the panel.

Comm (Blackwell): What's going on, Major?
Comm (McCain): Mother says the Weyland-Yutani schematics lacked pertinent data.
Comm (Duke): Which means?
Comm (McCain): Put it this way, if there are survivors at the Pods, their situation just got a whole lot worse.

Your last objective is complete and the level ends.
