Classroom management

All teachers ,especially those who are inexperienced ,have problems with discipline at some point. Here are some guidelines to help teachers prevent these problems from arising and what to do if there is a problem.

Preparing the lesson

a-It's certain that lesson preparation will prevent discipline problems. you will know what to do next and you will prevent long silence between the different stages of the lesson if you prepare your lesson.

b-Plan the timing of each stage carefully so that you do not finish too early fail to finish what you set out to accomplish.

c-Always  have an extra activity ( a song or a game) to use if the lesson does finish early.

d-Good teaching will keep the students active and interested and they will misbehave only if they are bored or don’t understand. So use teaching methods which will involve the whole class and them active.

Organizing the lesson

a-Always be on time and don’t accept lateness from the very beginning.

b-Make sure the students have all the equipment necessary for your lesson.

c-Get them to be quiet at the start of the lesson, also make sure they are listening well.

 Teaching style

a-Don’t be too friendly with the students ,especially at first.

b-Try to look and sound confident. If you are nervous the students will fell this and some of them will misbehave.

c-Be sure that the students will always" try out" a new teacher to see how much he/she tolerate.

d-Make good use of your voice. Don’t shout or speak too quickly. Speak calmly and vary the speed. Volume and tone of your voice as you teach.

e-Keep eye contact with the students. Try to look as many different students as possible while you are teaching; look them squarely and confidently in the eye. This makes them involved and enables you to spot any misbehavior immediately.

d-movement; stand up straight and look confident and relaxed. Don’t stand in the same place all the time.

e-Ask questions to involve the students. Ask all students not only the best ones.

?What to do if a problem arise

a- correct bad behavior immediately, Don't let it get worse.

b-Don’t panic or lose your temper, although you can pretend to get angry. Keep calm and control yourself.

c-If there is talking never raise your voice or continue talking. Instead, make the students quiet. Never tolerate misbehavior.

d-If you see a student not paying attention involve him/her in the lesson, perhaps by asking him a question.

e-Don’t reward bad behavior ; for example, some students stand and shout '' teacher, teacher'' when they want to answer a question . Never respond to those students . If you do, then you are encouraging bad behavior.

f-If the bad behavior id not serious (such as talking quietly or not paying attention involve him/her in the class , by asking questions.

g-Don’t be afraid to stop the lesson when you face a serious bad behavior. Correct it and if necessary punish him soon.

h-There are a lot of kinds for punishment. You can raise your voice or change the tone of it. You can also give extra work; you can make the trouble maker sit alone or you can send him/her to a senior teacher.
