SCOTLAND RUGBY LEAGUE
SUMMER CONFERENCE 2002 -
GRAND FINAL
Edinburgh 46 - 24
Portobello
A large crowd watched the Edinburgh Eagles win the 6th Scotland Rugby League Grand Final
against the Portobello
Playboys at Cavalry Park on Saturday
The Eagles took the game to the Playboys and
were 40-4 in front at the break, with tries from Hughes, Muru, Knight and
doubles from Neil and Hohua for the Eagles and MacKay putting the Playboys
on the scoreboard.
Despite a spirited second half fightback by
the Playboys, with tries by Doig, Molotnikov and Cook (2), it was Cowie, who
was called up this week for the Edinburgh Gunners professional Rugby Union
side, who finished off any hope of a Portobello comeback with a fine score.
The Eagles become the first club to win back
to back Finals and now go on to represent Scotland in next seasons Challenge
Cup.
PLATE FINAL
FIFE LIONS 58-24 GLASGOW BULLS
There were double celebrations at Harley
Street - the strangely-named home ground of Fife Lions - on Saturday night
as the men in red and blue celebrated the winning of the Scottish Plate
Final and the presentation of the 2nd Division Championship trophy at the
end of the match.
The first half hour of the game was very
competitive before Glasgow surrendered a 14-6 lead. A rampaging four-try
outing from newly-capped Scottish Amateur international prop Scott
McGillvary and a hat-trick from ex-Hull KR loose forward Colin Wilson doing
most of the damage. |
