(A7), normally used in Penang.

One is a new pattern on a 1928 issue, another seems to be a double strike of a POKO perfin HP, postmarked 1922. The third is perfin B.M.&C.L. (type A1 in the World Perfins catalogue) of Netherlands Indies, with the L missing, which may have been deliberate as no other pins are missing.

A 1911 cover is illustrated with this perfin on a cover from Schwaben Verein, 1327 N. Clark St., Chicago. Both covers show a stencil printed address, suggesting that the Rapis Addressing Co. were processing the mail of Schwaben Verein. A further 1910 cover with this perfin is reported, sent by J. Capps & Sons Woolen Mills of Jacksonville, IL but postmarked Chicago. See 5092.

Bull., Jan-Feb 2002, 56, (1), 5US perfin M47.5 (MC mongram) is illustrated on a block of 12 stamps showing the unusual method of perforating with this multiheaded die. The first strike at the top left of the sheet is centered in the middle of the top left block of 4 instead of in one stamp. By this method every stamp in the sheet would receive at least one partial strike of the perfin but fewer strikes of the perforator would be needed.

The third shows that DIB (D51A) was used by D. I. Bushnell & Co., 105 N. 2nd St., St. Louis., Missouri.

5087Observations on Holey Uruguayan Official and Newspaper IssuesSchwerdt, R. Perf. These punches were applied before the stamps were affixed to the envelopes. Also, newspaper issues always seem to be punched in a similar manner. Several examples are shown.

This firm bought out Francis A. Hancock in 1886 for the sum of £1000 plus another £1000 in shares in the new company. For this, they got six perforating presses and 552 dies. After Hancock's death in 1892 the firm declined, being struck off in 1898.

The item attracted a lot of attention with over 41 bids. In Bulletin 339 an article by Eric Keefe dating from 1995 was reprinted which listed only ten perfin dies known in Finnish stamps. In Bulletin 340 Magnus Werner added the perfin “W” to the list. It is known used only on high value stamps of the 1930 definitive series. The user is unknown but it was used in Käkisalmi, now a city of Priozersk, located on the western shore of Lake Ladoga, in what is now Russia.
