Back in the 1940's , a preacher in the church of Christ in Springfield, Missouri, Charlie Waller begin teaching the
church to put their unblieveing companion away and marry a believer. His doctrine did not get off the ground so he
joined the Holliness movement. Later in the late 1950's , Homer King also a preacher and from Springfield, Missouri
willing to condone some of his family for committing adultery begin teaching the precept of Moses that Christ
rehersed to the Pharisees when they were tempting him(Matthew 19:9). This did not become a division in the church
until a meeting of preachers in 1962. By this time the divorce rate in this country had became an every day event
and was becoming more accepted by some in the church. The latest false doctrine taught by another preacher,
Homer Hailey, is taken from 1 Corinthians 7:19-21,
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
21 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
If you notice nothing is said about remaining in sin, that is what repentence is all about. Yet Hailey tried to twist
this scripture to his and all that accepted it to their own distruction.
These man made doctrines were taught a long time after the beginning of the church in Jerusalem. Adultery is still
a grevious sin as is any other sin. Galatians 5:
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told
you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Today some, or maybe I should say most preachers will teach every man made doctrine for the justification of the
sin of adultery.
Now, have you ever heard these false teachers teach what Paul wrote to the church in Rome? The Apostle Paul in
Romans 7 used the law of marriage to show we are free to be
married to the law of Christ. Again in Ephesians 5:22-32
Paul uses the marriage relationship to teach the relation of Christ and his church. Now
ask yourself this question, can we divorce Christ and go off into denominationalism and be saved in the day of
judgement? I think not. Neighter can we divorce our companion and remarry another and stand without the sin of
adultery in judgement.
The law of marriage taught to the church by Paul is found in I Corinthians 7:19
39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be
married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
Ask yourself, are these false preachers/teachers teaching the truth about adultery? From what I can read and
understand they are teaching the church to follow the broad path into HELL. Why not pick up your Bible and begin
to study for yourself so you will know the truth. If the blind lead the blind they will both fall in the ditch.
Look at II Timothy 2:15, now think about it!
