[J-CYMUN]

      J-CYMUN 2009 will take place on March 15-17, 2009

As the organizers and Secretariat of the Jewish Canadian Youth Model United Nations (J-CYMUN) conference, we would like to invite your organization to take part in this momentous event. Never before has there been a Model UN which was at the same time affordable, Canadian, and respectful of Shabbat and Kashrut. In association with Montreal Hillel we have created a conference which will enable Jewish youth to take part in the Model UN experience. To make the conference a success we are asking you to send a delegation of hard working, interested students, as well as one accompanying faculty advisor to the conference.

What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

A MUN brings students together to simulate the activities of the United Nations. The conference allows participants to learn about the countries they are assigned to represent, in addition to gaining an understanding of international relations. Students do their own preparatory research in advance, and then debate the issues in question at the conference, by playing the role of their country's representative. Participants learn to debate, negotiate, represent views they may not personally advocate, as well as to make informed decisions quickly while under pressure.

The 2009 conference will feature the following committees:

The Security Council Responsible for international peace and security.
World Health Organization [WHO] Deals with health issues facing the international community.
Counter-Terrorism Committee [CtC] Formulates international counterterrorism policy.
Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian [SOCHUM] Deals with social and humanitarian issues.
United Nations Human Rights Council [UNHRC] Focuses on human rights violations throughout the world.
United Nations Peacebuilding Commission [UNPC] [Crisis] Supports peace building in countries emerging from conflict.
