Tony Bagley’s sitcom about Roy Hitchcock (Martin Clunes), a local news journalist and part-time dreamer, who becomes infatuated with Jane Callaghan (Zoë Wanamaker in the first series, Geraldine James in the second).  Jane is not merely, as the title suggests, older than Roy; when they first met, several years earlier, Roy was at school and ‘Miss Callaghan’ was his English teacher.  During the few moments when Roy was not preoccupied with Jane, his life — generally on the point of collapse — was punctuated with bizarre fantasy sequences involving a multitude of celebrities.  Toyah Wilcox and Geoff McGivern appeared as Roy’s work colleagues.
