A delightful mix of 'The Truman Show' with the slapstick laughs of 'Knocked Up' comes this unique comedy -- Mr Average. With the polls tightening the incumbent president (Thierry Lhermitte) hires a marketing company to help him win his re-election. The marketing company picks the winner of the latest sensation in TV "Your Choice is Right" (a game show) to do so. Following the hot game show winner Jalil (Khalid Maadour) they put him into a new apartment, provide him with a va-va-voom girlfriend, Claire (Caroline Dhavernas) and start gathering info!
Mr. Average is very much like 'The Truman Show' in story but that is where it ends, this comedy stands out on its own in a lot of ways. I have read mixed opinions on this before watching it myself and and I agree on both the good reviews and the not so good ones. The film is certainly charming and there is plenty of laughs along the way but it does seem a little choppy at times but you can say that about of of movies today. In the end I thought the film succeeded in what it set out to do, it is clever, witty, funny, charming and warmhearted. I recommend this French film to any fan of comedy that is looking for something different to watch instead of the same old comedies that are released today.
