From the director of Revenge of the Nerds comes this outrageous sword and sandals spoof that's got more laughs than Gladiator, hotter bods than Troy, and an army of 301! Horny King Looney of Troy (Rip Torn, Men in Black) sends slacker general Awesomest Maximus (Will Sasso, The Three Stooges) to maintain peace with rival King Erotic of Greece. But when Prince Orlando, who's more into fashion than fighting, steals the King's wife Ellen (Sophie Monk, Date Movie) to be his BFF, it's war! Will Awesomest live up to his godly destiny? Can he defeat the mighty warrior Testiclees (Ian Ziering, Beverly Hills 90210)? Can he light a fire under his gold-digging wife Hotessa (Kristanna Loken, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines)? Join the ultimate toga party for this savagely funny farce that takes comedy to the Maximus.
"The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" isn't much different than all the other Spoof films but it does have it's moments. The plot is a combination of three films; 300, Gladiator and Troy with some decent acting, nice production values considering the budget and there's a good bit of raunchy humor and some nudity as well, what more can you really ask for from a movie like this? Despite the film's obvious stupidity the jokes here actually work for the most part. The film is going to be a hit or miss with viewers, if you don't like sexual humor then I suggest you move on but if it's something you enjoy from time to time then I think you're going to find the film to be pretty entertaining.
The cast did a very good job all things considered, Will Sasso has a very comedic side to him and he does a great job as the lead, the rest of the cast including Kristanna Loken and Rip Torn are terrific as well. This isn't going to win any awards or change your life, it's an adult comedy that pokes fun at "Troy" among other films and it does it in a naughty yet hilarious way. It's not a great film but if you like this sort of thing then it's a fun hour and a half spent. Brainless humor that had me laughing at times and that's worth at least a rental to me.
Considering how bad many of these spoof films have been this one is actually pretty good, there's a built in audience for these types of comedies so if you enjoy them then I recommend checking it out and if you don't then look for something else to watch.
