Background

NACOI's new executives in cooperation with its affiliates, sister organizations and other community groups are working together to initiate a "Mentoring Program," for our Youth. The purpose of this "Mentoring Program" is to establish a database of mentors who could provide advice and guidance to our youth (typically in the age group of 18 to 25 years) in the following areas:

·    Education   ·     Job Search   ·   Career Choice                ·  Entrepreneurship

In addition, NACOI has been soliciting business people and professionals in our community to provide summer jobs to our youth (both paid jobs and apprenticeships). This workshop session is planned to disseminate information and discuss about this program.

MENTOR PROGRAM  (FOR YOUTH)

1. Purpose:

The purpose of the Mentor Program is to establish a database of mentors who could provide advice and guidance to our youth (typically in the age group of 18 to 25 years) in the following areas:
Education
Career Choice
Job Search
Entrepreneurship

2.  Who could be a Mentor?

Anyone capable of providing guidance and advice to our youth in the areas mentioned above can be a mentor. Typically a mentor would be a professional, an academic, or a businessperson with experience or expertise in a chosen field. There is no age or gender restriction. In addition to mentors with experience, individuals who have entered the workforce in the past few years are very much encouraged to join this mentor program.

3. Method of compilation:

Any individual, who wishes to participate in this mentor program, should fill the form below, sign and mail or fax to NACOI. The database will be initially compiled in a print form. Later it will be made available on the web.

4. How can one benefit from this program?

Anyone (youth in particular) who wishes to receive advice or guidance from a mentor, refers to the database, and makes a search to identify a mentor best suited to his/her needs. Then he/she takes the initiative to contact the mentor to benefit from the program.
