Bette @ New Leaf

On Wednesday, December 5, 2001, I attended a party at New Leaf Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park, Manhattan. These photos, taken by my husband Jerry, commemorate a very special night. Enjoy!

Joseph Pupillo, president of NYRP, made an introductory speech while Bette (wearing her glasses) waited her turn.

Bette stepped up to the podium to give her speech.

She had a lot to say about all the work that had been done to get the restaurant finished.

As Bette began to thank people who had worked on the project, I realized that just about everyone in the room had had SOMETHING to do with it...except me!

I had been whining about being the shorty in a crowd of tall people, and some of them graciously stepped back to let me get a better peek.

Bette thanked architects, designers, planners, florists, chefs, and the man who designed the lighting fixtures!

In the crowd was Henry Stern, Parks Commissioner since I think FOREVER. He gives everyone who works in his department a Park name, and of course Bette's is "The Rose," while Joseph Pupillo's is "The Thorn!"

Bette looked very happy, and I think she feels quite proud of this special step in the progress of this beautiful park.

This is the closest I got to taking a picture with Miss M!

As Jerry and I left, Bette and Martin were sitting off to the back, having a private dinner.
