He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia, and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunatly, contact with his own time was maintained through brain-wave transmissions with Al, the Project Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Dr. Beckett can see and hear.
Trapped in the past, Dr. Beckett finds himself Leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next Leap will be the Leap home."
Your clearance has been granted. Welcome to The Accelerator. My name is Ziggy. I am the parallel hybrid super-computer created by Dr. Samuel Beckett to oversee Project Quantum Leap.
As you may know, Dr. Beckett began Leaping 5 years ago, and is still unable to come home. Despite all the work everyone at the Project has been doing, we are still unable to perfect the retrieval program. Although Dr. Beckett has been making life better for hundreds of people, we feel it's time for him to come home.
Because it has been so long, and because the more time that goes by, the less chance we have of retrieving Dr. Beckett, we feel it's time to go beyond the walls of the Project, and enlist the help of anyone who might know, or have the power to bring him home. However, it seems that there may be someone else out there Leaping around, and that poses a great threat to us. If this unknown Leaper (who we believe may be female) comes into contact with Sam, or detroys any of the good he's done, we may never get him home. Something must be done.
