Rose Petal Candles by CraftyWench

Rating: Adult

Description:
Candles covered in rose petals covered by wax.

Uses:
Wonderful gifts and home decorations. Use any type or shape of candle. Great for immortalizing the roses you get on special occasions.

Side Note :
I live near Tyler, Texas, home of the "Tyler Rose".
So every Summer I get bunch after bunch of these roses for next-to-nothing at little roadside stands along the highway. I dry these petals and use them for this project. But for those of you who are less fortunate, see if your local florist would be willing to sell you wilted or dying roses at a lower cost.

Here is a list of things you will need to do this project:
Rose Petals of various colors (Rose leaves are nice too)
Double boiler, small or large crock pot, large spaghetti pot with a coffee can floated in it, or any other way to melt portions of wax that you choose (I have an old crock pot dedicated for this purpose.)
Usually about a pound of parrifin wax. More for bigger candles. less for smaller ones.
Candle of any size
Rose candle scent, Lace, and Small decorative rosettes (optional)
Tongs are nice, or use your fingers if you can stand the heat.

Putting it all together:
Put about a pound of the parrifin in the crock pot or double boiler and let it melt add scent after melted, if desired.
Using tongs or fingers, dunk a large rose petal into the wax and then spread it onto your candle near or level to the bottom. Repeat this going around the candle until the entire candle (Excluding the top and bottom) is covered.
You can leave it as is, or dunk the whole candle down in the wax to produce a laminated look.

Set candle on wax paper to harden a bit.

Polish the candle with an old pair of nylon stockings to remove any bumps or fingerprints.
Dip the lace in the wax and run it around the bottom of the candle. Decorate with Rosettes (optional)

Hints and Ideas:
The first time you try this, I recommend starting with votive candles and working your way up. Intersperse your rose petals with a few rose leaves to break the monotony. A touch of green will help bring out the pinks and reds of your candle. Try making a candle arrangement and giving as a gift. Strew a few rose petals carelessly on the plate with your candles. It's gorgeous.

I hope you have fun with this craft and let me know how it turns out. If you're having any trouble with it, let me know and I'll be glad to help you.
