Here is a list of things you will need to do this project:
Block of Glycerin or other microwavable soap (Found in craft stores Everywhere)
Molds for soapmaking. Candy molds, and molds for floating candles can be substituted
Petroleum Jelly
Microwave
Microwavable container with a pour-spout. (I use a glass measuring cup)
Plastic Wrap
Wooden stirring utensil
Coloring (optional)
Scent oil (optional)

Putting it all together:
Cut some soap from large block into 1" cubes.
Put the cubes in a microwaveable container and place in the microwave
Set the microwave timer for about 1 minute and turn it on. You will want to stir the soap with a nonmetal object (I recommend chopsticks, or small dowel rods) every 15 seconds until the soap is completely liquid.
Once the soap is melted, pour into molds that are lightly coated with petroleum jelly for easy removal.
Leave the molds alone until the soap sets in the mold. Depending on the temperature of the room, the soap may set faster or slower. I recommend checking it every half-hour or so, to see if the mold is cool to the touch.
Unmold according to the instructions on the mold, and wrap it in plastic wrap (If you're not planning to use it immediately). Contact with the moisture in the air can cause the soap to develop a gooey outer layer.
Have a wonderful time!!!

Hints and Ideas:
Here's some tips. Try this if you dare. Pour a large sheet of colored soap onto a plastic-wrap covered cookie sheet. Use small cookie cutters and cut out shapes. Use a larger sized soap mold, and pour a little bit of clear glycerine soap-base. float one of the shapes in it and cover with more clear glycerine soap-base. You get a wonderful little 3D effect.

I hope you have fun with this craft and let me know how it turns out. If you're having any trouble with it, let me know and I'll be glad to help you.
